JOB SUMMARY

The Radiologic Technologist performs a variety of technical procedures to apply prescribed radiation for diagnostic purposes, is registered and/or certified through the ARRT and state.

This position requires the technologist to explain procedures to the patient, position and immobilize the patient on exam table and observe during the exam. Works at a technical level in a capacity that requires sound judgment, ingenuity, initiative and the ability to work independently without direct supervision.

The technologist uses radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff. Has knowledge and understanding of age‑related care needs for pediatric, adult and geriatric patients. Requires the ability to interact professionally and communicate effectively with patients, family members, physicians and NBMC staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Produces quality radiographs as ordered selecting proper technical factors according to an individual patient’s need. Operates equipment per policies, procedures and standards assuring appropriate protection is provided in accordance with safety standards. a. Positions and transfers and patients. b. c. Practices radiation safety in accordance with established standard of care.
  • Consults with radiologists to establish the requirement for non‑standard and standard protocols.
  • Performs CPR when required and assists in emergency situations as directed by physician.
  • Monitors equipment for malfunctions, takes corrective action. Notifies manager when needed.
  • Maintains PACS database as required.
  • Assists in the filming retrieval and maintenance of the hard and soft copy images and other patient records.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records or log according to policies and procedures.
  • Cooperates with all personnel to ensure high quality of patient care is maintained.
  • Participates in department quality management activities.
  • Protects patient rights by consistently ensuring that information known about the customer is kept private and confidential.
  • Accesses clinical information systems to retrieve patient information as needed to provide care.
  • Resolves personal conflicts in the workplace without compromising professionalism and integrity of the department.
  • Contributes to the success of the organization by meeting organizational competency expectations, continuously learning and by performing other duties as needed or assigned.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Serves on committees as directed by the manager or director.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Skilled in interpersonal communications and ability to relate well with the public and clinic employees at all levels.
  • Ability to work with a variety of patients including children and their parents/guardians.
  • Ability to be responsive to the special needs of the department.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform specific imaging procedures, practices and safe operation of equipment as pertains to specific modality specialties.
  • Ability to assess patient status and communicate appropriate information meeting each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age‑specific needs, and provide the care needed as described in the department/unit’s policies and procedures.
  • Ability to be sensitive and show positive regard for fellow employees.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Ability to willingly accept responsibility, own problems and resolve with positive outcomes.
  • Ability to set priorities and use good judgment.
  • Ability to rotate shifts and locations within the medical center system depending upon need.
  • Ability to meet organization and departmental appearance standards on the job. Ability to arrive on time and ready to work when shift starts.
Radiology Technologist accreditation: Not required but beneficial to have CT and/or MRI licensure.
