Job summary

Children's Wisconsin is seeking a Radiologic Tech for part-time, on-site work performing radiographic procedures with mobile and stationary equipment across General Diagnostics, Fluoroscopy, and OR settings. Focus is on age-appropriate patient care, privacy, and accurate imaging with proper safety protocols.

Required certification in Radiologic Technology with appropriate state licensure and ARRT/BLS credentials. The role participates in training and education of radiography students and staff.

Qualifications

• Completion of certification in Radiologic Technology is required.
• Associate or Bachelor degree in radiology or related field preferred.
• Licenses and certifications must be current and eligible for state licensure.

Responsibilities

• Perform outpatient and inpatient radiographic procedures using mobile and stationary equipment.
• Ensure patient age-appropriate care and privacy in accordance with HIPAA.
• Verify patient identity, requisitions, and imaging locations.
• Maintain safety and radiation protection for patients and staff.
• Coordinate exams with other departments and train new staff.

Job Summary

Performs outpatient and/or inpatient Radiographic procedures using mobile and stationary equipment within the pertinent clinical setting of General Diagnostics, Fluoroscopy, Mobile Radiography, Emergency Radiography, and Mobile Radiographic and Fluoroscopic procedures in the Operating Room.

Essential Functions

• Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
• Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
• Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
• Performs simple and complex radiographic procedures within the clinical setting by proper application of the required imaging and ancillary equipment with minimal supervision.
• Accurately performs examinations using stationary and mobile radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment.
• Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws (HIPAA) and the facility’s policies and procedures.
• Verifies proper patient identification and exam ordered to ensure correct patient imaging is performed.
• Reviews patient medical history and results of prior diagnostic tests to validate imaging needs.
• Ensures images are properly identified with correct patient identification and lead markers.
• Reviews and assures requisition is properly completed with date, time, tech initials, number of images and clinical history.
• Practices radiation protection by calculating and selecting proper technical factors based on patient’s age, physical condition, and suspected pathology.
• Effectively utilizes beam limiting devices, protective apparel, and immobilization devices.
• Prepares exam room and X-ray equipment to conduct X-ray examinations in accordance with infectious disease, sterilization and patient safety, protocols, policies, and procedures.
• Determines appropriate sequence to conduct multiple procedures and patient prioritization.
• Coordinates exams with other departments as necessary.
• Abides by, and maintains a working knowledge of institutional policy and TJC policy on patient safety goals and guidelines.
• Orients and trains new staff members in department procedures and equipment.
• Provides instruction and assists with education of radiography students approved for such training.

• Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition and ensures same is properly supplied for diagnostic procedures.
• Ensures sterile supplies are not damaged or expired.
• Ensures proper function of suction machines and oxygen outlets in work area.
• Orients and trains new staff members in department procedures and equipment.
• Provides instruction to radiography students approved for such training.

Education

• Completion of certification program from a school of Radiologic Technology, Associate’s Degree and/or Bachelor’s Degree in radiology or associated field of study required.

• Analytical skills to make independent decisions when dealing with complex equipment, sedation of patients, and critical care patients.

• Knowledge of diagnostic radiology principles ... through completion of an approved curriculum of Radiologic Technology.
• Basic computer skills to operate a computer efficiently and effectively.
• Ability to respond to clinical and administrative emergencies.
• An understanding of Children’s Wisconsin health care delivery system and the impact of other health care delivery systems on the patient and family.

This position is part time, as needed and typically 16-32 hours/month on rotating shifts.
