Rhode Island Medical Imaging is currently offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus!*

This position provides opportunity for career growth. RIMI will provide 100% financial support for Mammography Certification. Schooling will take place during employees' regularly scheduled shifts.

Summary

The practice of radiography is performed by a segment of health care professionals responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation to humans for diagnostic purposes. Under the direction of the Lead Technologist and/or Site Manager, the Radiographer/X-Ray Technologist performs radiographic procedures and related techniques producing images at the request of and for interpretation by licensed healthcare professionals. They interact effectively and professionally with patients, referring physicians/their staff, and fellow employees while maintaining the best possible patient flow and throughput at all times. They ensure appropriate quality control and perform related tasks such as assisting patients, maintaining and ordering appropriate levels of supplies, maintaining cleanliness of work areas, and performing routine clerical functions.

  • Monday-Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM OR 8:30AM-5:00PM at our North Providence clinical site

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure technique. Independently perform or assist in the completion of radiographic procedures.
  • Possess, utilize, and maintain knowledge of radiation protection and safety.
  • Apply principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others. Provide and ensure proper protection against radiation exposure by utilizing lead shields in accordance with recognized safety standards.
  • Receive and greet patients, obtain necessary medical history, and provide patients with procedure instructions/information.
  • Corroborate patient’s clinical history with the procedure, ensuring accurate information documentation for use by the radiologist.
  • Receive, relay, and document verbal, written, and/or electronic orders in patient medical records. Review all elements of orders for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure that images, examination requisitions, and other related records are properly completed with the correct patient identification, statistical, and billing information. Ensure that additional studies are properly documented and authorized by the offices of referring physician.
  • Assume responsibility for patient needs during procedures. Handle patients in a caring, courteous, and professional manner at all times. Evaluate patient ability to tolerate requested exam(s).
  • Identify and manage emergency situations.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality, coordinating and communicating with the radiologist and/or referring physician as needed. Assist the radiologist when required.
  • Educate and monitor students and other health care providers.
  • Operate equipment according to specific/recognized procedures and in accordance with established routines and techniques. Review images to ensure acceptable quality and completeness for diagnostic purposes.
  • Perform quality control procedures when required and ensure proper operation of equipment at all times.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting any concerns related to equipment operation.
  • Responsible for maintaining complete and organized records of all completed and requested equipment repairs.
  • Inform Lead Technologist when supplies are low and order necessary supplies to ensure continuous and efficient operation of the unit, as needed.
  • Assist other technologists as needed. Must possess the willingness and ability to cross-train in other modalities.
  • During lulls in technical duties, coordinate with reception and other personnel to provide additional assistance in other areas (patient registration, patient scheduling, answering telephones, posting charges, retrieving files, file relocation, etc.)
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
  • Available as scheduled to provide technologist duties at specified times and places assigned.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Basic Knowledge

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to perform exams as outlined by governing bodies and RIMI protocol.
  • Physical dexterity, strength, and ability to properly position patients and operate all types of X-rays and related equipment, push portable equipment, properly position patients, and handle patient images/files.
  • Conceptual ability to determine means of providing requested studies based on the specifics of each case.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress, referring physicians and staff, the radiologist, fellow employees, suppliers, and service representatives/any and all others who they come in contact with during the course of the business day.
  • Analytical skills to compile and interpret data.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide proper patient care.

Experience

  • High school diploma plus completion of a course of study in Radiologic Technology from an accredited program recognized by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and successful completion of the national certification exam.
  • Certification must be completed within 6 months of date of hire. Must remain in good standing with ARRT and maintain 24 credits per 2-year cycle with 1 credit being in radiation protection.
  • Must have and maintain additional accreditation and/or certification(s) required by the State, Federal Government, and RIMI within areas of expertise and to personally maintain the highest professional recognition levels available.
  • Must have current radiologic technologist license from the Rhode Island Department of Health.
  • Must submit a copy of yearly CME reports to management.

Physical Demands

  • Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day.
  • May lift/position patients and supplies up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to move patients from scanner tables and transport patients in wheelchairs and/or stretchers.
  • Ability to crouch, reach, and lift to allow appropriate manipulation positioning and placement of ancillary equipment.
