Job description

Work Schedule

This position is Monday through Friday from 9:00a.m. to 5:30p.m. with rotating OR call. External applicants are eligible for up to $15,000 sign‑on bonus and $5,000 relocation bonus if residing 75+ miles from Mercy Medical Center. Work shift: day. Scheduled weekly hours: 40.

Summary

This role supports Mercy’s philosophy of patient‑centered care by performing interpretive, patient care, and technical functions to ensure proper radiological diagnosis of patients under the direction of the department manager. The role also includes taking OR call on a rotational basis to support surgical imaging needs.

Job Duties
  • Ensures that all accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families and co‑workers at hand‑offs and other times as needed.
  • Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome.
  • Demonstrate competence in performing diagnostic radiographic examinations using fixed, portable, C‑arm, and O‑arm equipment across Radiology and additional locations as needed, including Fluoroscopy, Pain Clinic, and Diagnostic X‑ray.
  • Adhere strictly to established protocols while applying radiation safety principles (ALARA) to ensure the lowest possible radiation dose is used to obtain high‑quality diagnostic images.
  • Explain and prepare the patient for all radiographic procedures.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of RIS, PACS, Workday and other computer software as assigned.
  • Identify each patient correctly, verifying the exam to be performed is being done on the correct patient.
  • Review each patient’s medical history and clinical diagnosis for appropriateness of exam.
  • Review radiographic images for technique, positioning, laterality, patient demographics and image quality and repeat images of poor quality.
  • Work in surgery as a radiographer and participate in the OR call rotation, sharing on‑call responsibilities with other OR radiographers to ensure continuous coverage and support for surgical procedures.
  • Adhere to all infection control policies in surgery.
  • Understand the School of Radiologic Technology’s clinical competency system.
  • Maintain current knowledge of School of Radiology policies, procedures, and student progress.
  • Understand requirements for student supervision as outlined in the Student Supervision policy for Mercy/St.Luke’s School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Communicate with School of Radiology faculty on student‑related progress and issues.
  • Attend and participate in meetings/educational programs in Radiologic Technology Education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Follow Mercy’s safety guidelines, carry out job‑specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly report any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents, and injuries.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Competent using fixed, portable, C‑arm, and O‑arm equipment across Radiology.
Professional Experience
  • 6months of experience required.
  • 1year in surgical radiography preferred.
Education
  • Education sufficient to obtain required licensure/certification.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certificate required.
  • Iowa Department of Public Health State Permit to Practice Diagnostic Radiography required.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
  • Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required.
  • Employees must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
Compensation

Pay Rate Type: Hourly.
