Job summary

Precision Castparts in Portland, OR is seeking an experienced Radiography Technician to perform x-ray inspections of castings in accordance with customer and PCC specifications. You will set up castings, operate x-ray equipment, adjust exposure parameters, review Technique Cards, and ensure accurate imaging across multiple views.

Responsibilities include developing best practice setups, inspecting films for artifacts, maintaining Film/IP, and documenting results.

Qualifications

• Radiography skills as demonstrated by competent performance of all duties or an equivalent combination of classroom training and work experience.
• High school graduation or GED (necessary for NDT Certification).
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• Ability to read, follow and interpret Technique Cards, Quality Control Manuals and other technical specifications.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Checks routing or requests to determine x-ray needs on parts.
• Reviews Technique Cards to determine setup requirements, including x-ray techniques, part positions and Film/IP requirements based on Technique Cards.
• Sets up additional radiographs of defect areas not covered by Technique Cards.
• Inspect condition and maintain Film/IP and cassettes. Follow proper handling techniques.
• Sets up castings on tables in x-ray machines including fixturing, placement of Film/IPs, and DICOM tag identification and penetrameters on Film/IP; sets exposure parameters.
• Determines priority of radiographs to be taken.
• Develops best practice setup requirements for newly developed techniques when needed.
• Visually inspects castings for dirt, penetrant, grinding debris etc.
• Operates x-ray machine control panels and equipment to take multiple views of castings, adjusting radiographic variables such as tube height, voltage and exposure times within customer specifications.
• Monitor, Maintain, and generate exposures for System Qualifications on X-ray equipment per customer and PCC specifications.
• Regularly conducts more than one radiographic examination concurrently, and is expected to be able to operate all machines.
• Removes Film/IP from casting for image processing, while maintaining proper Film/IP handling techniques.
• After image processing, checks samples of radiographs on each casting for artifacts, clarity, coverage, pixel value and sensitivity; makes changes within specifications; records changes; re-shoots exposure when needed.
• Willingness to be audited without notice by PCC internal and external auditing groups (NDTE, NADCAP, ISO 9000).
• Trains, mentors, and assists less skilled Radiographers with setup and operational techniques as needed (marginal in NDTE departments).
• Completes logs and records, and records modifications to Technique Card specifications.
• Meets all production and quality standards.

Principal Accountabilities

• Setup

Objective: to accurately set up castings for radiography.

Essential Job Functions

X-Ray Operation

Objective: to effectively and accurately operate x-ray machines and produce radiographs within customer specifications.

• Operates x-ray machine control panels and equipment to take multiple views of castings, adjusting radiographic variables such as tube height, voltage and exposure times within customer specifications.
• Monitor, Maintain, and generate exposures for System Qualifications on X-ray equipment per customer and PCC specifications.
• Regularly conducts more than one radiographic examination concurrently, and is expected to be able to operate all machines.
• Removes Film/IP from casting for image processing, while maintaining proper Film/IP handling techniques .
• After image processing, checks samples of radiographs on each casting for inner fearing Artifacts, clarity, coverage, pixel value and sensitivity; makes changes within customer and PCC specifications; records any changes made; reshoots exposure when needed.
• Willingness to be audited without notice by all Auditors both PCC Internal and External auditing groups. e.g. PCC NDTE, NADCAP, ISO 9000,etc.
• Trains, mentors, and assists less skilled Radiographers with setup and operational techniques as needed and assigned. (Marginal job function in NDTE departments)
• Completes logs and records, and records any modifications to Technique Card specifications.
• Meets all production and quality standards.
