Summary
This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing interpretive, patient care and technical functions to ensure proper radiological diagnosis of patients under the direction of the department manager. The Radiographer III works with the supervisor to assist with the oversight of staffing, resources, and training for the areas in which they work.
Job Duties
- Ensure that all accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families and co-workers at hand offs and other times as needed. Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome.
- Demonstrates competence and actively performs diagnostic/fluoroscopy (fixed and portable) x-ray exams in diagnostic radiology and two additional locations to include fluoroscopy, surgery, pain clinic or Hybrid OR according to protocol and with the least amount of radiation needed to obtain a quality image.
- Explains and prepares the patient for all Radiographic General and Fluoroscopic procedures.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of RIS, PACS, Laborworkx and other computer software as assigned.
- Identifies each patient correctly verifying the exam to be performed is being done on the correct patient.
- Reviews each patient's medical history and clinical diagnosis for appropriateness of exam.
- Reviews radiographic images for technique, positioning, laterality, patient demographics and image quality and repeats images of poor quality.
- Works in surgery as a radiographer and takes call in surgery or works holidays on a rotational basis.
- Adheres to all infection control policies in surgery.
- Understands the School of Radiologic Technology's clinical competency system.
- Maintains current knowledge of School of Radiology policies, procedures, and student progress.
- Understands requirements for student supervision as outlined in the Student Supervision policy for the Mercy/St. Luke's school of Radiologic Technology.
- Communicates with School of Radiology faculty on student-related progress and issues.
- Attends and participates in meetings/educational programs in Radiologic Technology Education.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Competent using diagnostic (fixed and portable) x-ray equipment, computed radiography and digital radiography/fluoroscopy.
Professional Experience
- 2 years’ experience required.
- One year experience in surgical radiography preferred.
Education
- Education sufficient to obtain required licensure/certification.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
- American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) certificate required.
- Iowa Department of Public Health State Permit to Practice Diagnostic Radiography required.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
- Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
