Job description

Band 5 Therapeutic Radiographer - Sutton site. Would you like the opportunity to work in the largest cancer centre in Europe with an international reputation for high-quality patient care, research, and education? The department features advanced equipment including 6 Elekta linear accelerators, an Elekta MR linear accelerator, Cyberknife, Gulmay superficial unit, Radixact units, and sophisticated imaging tools like Siemens Confidence CT scanner, supporting multi-modality imaging for planning. The Royal Marsden Hospital is renowned as Europe's largest comprehensive cancer centre, committed to excellence in patient care, research, and education.

Main duties of the job
  1. The post-holder will perform complex radiotherapy processes accurately in various settings such as treatment units, brachytherapy, CT scanners, and treatment preparation areas, while participating in clinical research activities.
  2. Collaborate with medical, physics, nursing, clerical, and support staff, primarily liaising with senior radiographers.

Job responsibilities

  1. Prepare, plan, and deliver radiotherapy treatments accurately.
  2. Participate in organizing the radiotherapy work base as part of the team.
  3. Operate all equipment safely and efficiently according to manufacturer instructions and local guidelines.
  4. Comply with IR(ME)R regulations as delegated by the Trust.
  5. Analyze and approve planning and verification images following training and guidelines.
  6. Maintain accurate records and provide statistical data as required.
  7. Participate in routine and weekly quality control of equipment following ISO 9001 standards.
  8. Adhere to the department's ISO 9001 quality assurance program.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • HCPC registration as a therapeutic radiographer, with a BSc (Hons) in Radiotherapy or equivalent.
Experience
  • Experience with sophisticated radiotherapy equipment and techniques such as IGRV, IMRT, and imaging technologies.
  • Experience in paperless radiotherapy processes.
  • Participation in research, audits, or service evaluations.
Skills
  • Effective communication skills, managing sensitive information with diplomacy and empathy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize.
  • Proficiency in computer use and keyboard skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
Circumstances
  • Ability to work flexible hours between 08:00 and 20:00, including participation in weekend on-call services and bank holidays, up to 8 times annually.
