Job summary

The University of Maryland Faculty Physicians, Inc seeks a Radiologic Technologist to perform a variety of radiographic exams, including general x-ray and bone densitometry, and to assist Radiologists with fluoroscopy and interventional studies.

You will ensure proper technique, protect patients with radiation shielding, prepare contrast media when needed, and maintain images and equipment per department guidelines. Licensure in MD and ARRT registration preferred; CPR required.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology.
  • One year of related experience preferred.
  • Health Care Provider CPR certification.
  • Licensure from the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as a Medical Radiation Technologist.
  • Registered or registry eligible by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Responsibilities

  • Performs radiographic examinations to include general x-ray and bone densitometry exams; assist Radiologist with fluoroscopy and interventional studies.
  • Determines proper technique through selection of kVp, mA and exposure time; applies anatomy knowledge to produce high-quality images.
  • Greets and introduces self to patients; verifies identity and explains the procedure to be performed.
  • Ensures required consent forms are signed prior to examination.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media intravenously or by other routes; assesses patient condition prior to administration.
  • Positions patient for proper view; instructs patient on required physiological conduct during procedure.
  • Performs radiographic procedures as prescribed by a physician; uses radiation protection and shielding devices.

Performs a variety of radiographic examinations following prescribed techniques and positioning procedures. Documents and stores the images according to departmental guidelines. Monitors and maintains equipment; and other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Performs radiographic examinations to include general x-ray and bone densitometry exams. Assist the Radiologist with fluoroscopy and interventional studies.
  • Performs all radiographic exams in accordance with the department policies, procedures, and protocols. Determines proper technique through selection of KVP, MA, and exposure time. Apply detailed knowledge of anatomy in order to produce images of high quality.
  • Pleasantly greets and introduces self to patients, verifies their identification and the correctness of the procedure to be performed.
  • Explains examination to the patient and family, if present.
  • Ensures any required consent forms are signed prior to the examination.
  • Prepares contrast media and administer to patient either intravenously or through other body cavities. Always assess the patient’s condition prior to administering a contrast media or performing the radiographic procedure.
  • Positions patient for the proper view of the affected area and instruct patient as to the proper physiological requirements for the procedure.
  • Performs radiographic procedures as prescribed by a physician.
  • Uses a variety of radiation protection and shielding devices.
Education and/or Experience
  • Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology
  • One year of related experience preferred
  • Health Care Provider CPR certification
  • Licensure from the Maryland Department of Health and Mental as a Medical Radiation Technologist
  • Registered or registry eligible by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
