Powerus seeks a Radio Firmware Engineer to develop transceiver control and link-layer firmware for Powerus controller and aircraft radios. The role focuses on drivers, framing, timing, and secure communication in high-consequence environments.

You will work on RF calibration, flight test measurements, and production test modes to ensure robust performance. U.S.-based candidates with ITAR compliance experience are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Professional experience developing embedded firmware in C.
• Experience developing firmware for radio transceivers or wireless products.
• Experience with microcontrollers or embedded Linux, including SPI, UART, and DMA.
• Ability to use spectrum analyzers and logic analyzers to debug firmware.
• U.S. Person status required; access to ITAR- and EAR-controlled data.

Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Develop drivers and control firmware for RF transceivers and front-end components
• Implement link-layer functions including framing, retransmission, channel access, and frequency hopping
• Implement link quality monitoring and adaptive data rate and power control
• Implement pairing, encryption, and authentication between controller and aircraft
• Implement RF calibration and production test modes
• Measure link performance on the bench and in flight test

Qualifications

• Must be located in the United States, within commuting distance of Rock Hill, SC
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
• Professional experience developing embedded firmware in C
• Experience developing firmware for radio transceivers or wireless products
• Experience with microcontrollers or embedded Linux, including SPI, UART, and DMA
• Ability to use spectrum analyzers and logic analyzers to debug firmware
• U.S. Person status required (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)); this role involves access to ITAR- and EAR-controlled technical data

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with frequency-hopping or proprietary radio protocols
• Experience with transceivers from Analog Devices, Texas Instruments, or Semtech
• Experience with UAS datalinks or tactical radios
• Experience with RTOS-based firmware
• Active or prior U.S. security clearance

What We Look For

Candidates should have written firmware for a radio that shipped and be able to describe how they debugged a link problem that only appeared over the air.
