Job description

The Field Technician is responsible for performing tasks associated with installation and/or maintenance of digital communication equipment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to new customer installations, service calls, de-installations, and network maintenance as directed by supervisors.

The Field Technician will travel to customer sites to install, rearrange, and remove equipment and associated wiring; verify work-order information; and verify receipt of all necessary equipment and information. This position must interpret service orders, circuit diagrams, and electrical schematics; locate and repair equipment problems associated with trouble reports; load and test software; and test, adjust, and repair equipment, as necessary. This position requires regular use of circuit and microwave test equipment.

Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities
  1. Pull, crimp, and power CAT5/CAT6, for indoor and outdoor applications, using standard cable practices
  2. Mount/install racks, batteries, multiple types of mounts and related equipment following standard practices pack and unpack materials
  3. Install antennas, radios, cameras, and other customer premises equipment
  4. Program customer premises equipment using computer and tools provided
  5. Troubleshoot and repair antenna systems and circuit problems both wireless and network related
  6. Install transmission and switch equipment
  7. Maintain, troubleshoot, and install dehydrator systems
  8. Terminate signal cable on DSX by performing wire wrapping and fiber optic cables to patch panel
  9. Label all signal cable, fiber optic, and power cable
  10. Have familiarity with multiple manufacturer's equipment to include but not limited to Nokia, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, Cisco, Motorola, Axis, Bridgewave, Cambium, Aviat
  11. Perform walk downs, including sketches and/or picture taking and measurements
  12. Must be able to pass manufacturers certification courses
  13. Responsible for maintenance and use of company supplied hand and power tools
  14. Operate circuit and microwave test equipment and record results
  15. Inventory tracking on vehicle level and installations
  16. Responsible for safety and quality assurance
  17. Daily driving and maintenance of company vehicle including bucket trucks
  18. Maintain work area clean of debris
  19. Prepare and submit all reports (i.e. timecards, expense reports, etc.) in an accurate and timely manner
  20. Update supervisors and project managers in an informative manner daily
  21. Maintain a professional, courteous, and responsible attitude to customers and fellow employees
  22. Carry out routine and special assignments as directed by supervisor or project manager
Minimum Experience and Educational Requirements
  1. High School Diploma or GED certificate
  2. 1+ year of experience installing digital wireless equipment and/or related technical fields
  3. Experienced with installing equipment racks, and grounding
  4. Microwave and wireless radio frequency experience preferred
  5. Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  6. Strong organizational and planning skills, and capable of managing several complex tasks at a time
  7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written & verbal
  8. Must be a team player and accept instruction
  9. Ability and willingness to travel frequently – up to 40%
  10. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and altitudes
  11. Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly
  12. Ability to work on rooftops two stories and above
