Job summary

Tidelands Health in Murrells Inlet, SC, is seeking a Radiation Therapy Coordinator (RN) to coordinate nursing care and support for patients receiving radiation therapy.   • Monitor patient status and treatment tolerance; escalate changes promptly.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation per standards.
  • Identify barriers to treatment and connect patients with resources.
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety activities.

A Brief Overview

The Radiation Therapy Coordinator (RN) coordinates nursing care and treatment-related support for patients receiving radiation therapy. This role serves as a clinical liaison among patients, families, radiation oncology providers, and interdisciplinary team members to promote safe, timely, compassionate, and goal-directed care throughout the radiation therapy process.

What you will do
  • Coordinate patient care activities for individuals receiving radiation therapy, ensuring continuity across consultation, treatment, follow-up, and supportive services.
  • Assess patient needs using the nursing process and provide goal-directed care within the RN scope of practice.
  • Serve as a clinical liaison between patients, families, radiation oncologists, nurses, therapists, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Support timely treatment planning, scheduling, patient preparation, and coordination of required tests, referrals, and documentation.
  • Educate patients and families regarding radiation therapy procedures, side effect management, treatment expectations, and self-care instructions.
  • Monitor patient status, treatment tolerance, and symptom concerns; escalate clinical changes to the appropriate provider in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory, organizational, and departmental standards.
  • Collaborate with the care team to identify barriers to treatment and connect patients with appropriate resources and support services.
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and process improvement activities within the radiation oncology service line.
  • Follow hospital policies, infection prevention standards, radiation oncology procedures, and professional nursing standards to support safe patient care.
Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Required
Experience Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in radiation therapy Required
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of radiation oncology workflows, patient care coordination, and nursing standards of practice.
  • Ability to assess patient needs, support treatment planning, and coordinate care across the interdisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and patient education skills.
  • Strong customer service, patient advocacy, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records, standard computer applications, documentation, and care coordination tools.
  • Ability to support quality improvement, patient safety, and process improvement initiatives within the radiation oncology setting.
