Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System in Overland Park seeks a Radiation Therapy Assistant for PRN, part-time coverage. You will assist Radiation Therapists, transport patients, review electronic records in O2/ARIA, and help ensure timely treatment.

Requirements include a High School Graduate and BLS, plus experience as MA/EMT/LPN preferred; strong computer skills and a patient-centered approach are valued.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate required.
• 3–6 months care experience in acute, ED, or long-term settings preferred.
• Experience as MA, EMT or LPN is desirable.
• BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide constant patient observation in the care area.
• Coordinate information between nursing, Radiation Therapy staff and physicians.
• Access and review patient information in EMR prior to treatment.
• Enter data into O2/ARIA to assist Radiation Therapists.
• Transport patients to and from Radiation Oncology and assist with room turnover.
• Educate patients and families about radiation therapy procedures.

Position Title

Radiation Therapy Assistant - PRN Varies - PRN KUCC - Overland Park

Position Summary / Career Interest

The Radiation Therapy Assistant PRN assists Radiation Therapists in the care of patients for Radiation Therapy treatments. The Radiation Therapy Assistant also helps with transferring/transporting and observing patients. Collects and presents information from ARIA and/or O2 regarding patient, exam and works to ensure patients are treated in a timely manner.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

• Provides constant patient observation while in immediate care area.
• Reports to Radiation Therapist and or physician if there is a change in patient’s mental status, pain, or condition.
• Coordinates information between nursing unit and the Radiation Therapy staff.
• Confirms and screens patient for appointments.
• Accesses patient information in the EMR prior to patient’s treatment and presents to Radiation Therapy staff for review.
• Enters information into O2/ARIA to assist Radiation Therapists.
• Maintains a patient-centered focus and strives to support the mission, goals and values of the hospital, department and division.
• Prepares treatment rooms before and after patient exam to assist with efficient and timely room turnover.
• Transport patients to and from Radiation Oncology department.
• Attends to patient’s comfort during transport and in the Radiation Oncology department.
• Reports condition changes during transport to Radiation Therapist/nurse or physician.
• Performs daily work assignments in an efficient, organized manner and with accuracy, such as assisting with inpatient/outpatient schedule coordination of patients.
• Provides education to patients, patient families, and nursing units regarding radiation therapy procedures.
• Retrieves and/or creates patients’ electronic folders and accesses reports and other patient or exam data via O2 and ARIA.
• Maintains supply par levels for linen, cleaning supplies, gloves etc. and restocks as needed.
• Promptly reports equipment malfunctions.
• Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Graduate
• Preferred Education and Experience
• Less than 1 year 3-6 months experience with caring for acute, ED, or long-term care patients
• Experience as an MA, EMT, LPN

Licensure and Certification

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)

Knowledge Requirements

• Ability to use computer systems, retrieving data when necessary
