Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a Radiation Therapy Assistant (PRN) to support Radiation Therapists in patient care, transport, and data handling within KU Medical Center’s North campus. This role emphasizes patient comfort, accurate information transfer, and collaborative care across departments.

Responsibilities include maintaining patient-centered care, using EMR systems, and assisting with room turnover and education for patients and families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• 3–6 months experience caring for acute/ED/long-term care patients preferred.
• Experience as MA/EMT/LPN preferred.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous patient observation in the immediate care area.
• Coordinate information between nursing unit and Radiation Therapy staff.
• Access EMR data and present to Radiation Therapy staff before treatment.
• Enter information into O2/ARIA to assist therapists.
• Prepare treatment rooms before and after exams for efficient turnover.
• Transport patients to and from Radiation Oncology department.
• Educate patients and families about procedures.
• Retrieve/create patient folders and access reports via O2/ARIA.
• Report equipment malfunctions promptly.

Position TitleRadiation Therapy Assistant - PRNVaries - PRNKUCC - NorthPosition Summary / Career Interest:The Radiation Therapy Assistant assists Radiation Therapists in the care of patients for Radiation Therapy treatments. The Radiation Therapy Assistant also helps with transferring/transporting and observing patients. Collects and presents information from ARIA and/or O2 regarding patient, exam and works to ensure patients are treated in a timely manner.Responsibilities and Essential Job FunctionsProvides constant patient observation while in immediate care area. Reports to Radiation Therapist and or physician if there is a change in patient’s mental status, pain, or condition.Coordinates information between nursing unit and the Radiation Therapy staff. Confirms and screens patient for appointments.Accesses patient information in the EMR prior to patient’s treatment and presents to Radiation Therapy staff for review.Enters information into O2/ARIA to assist Radiation Therapists.Maintains a patient-centered focus and strives to support the mission, goals and values of the hospital, department and division.Prepares treatment rooms before and after patient exam to assist with efficient and timely room turnover.Transport patients to and from Radiation Oncology department.Attends to patient’s comfort during transport and in the Radiation Oncology department. Reports condition changes during transport to Radiation Therapist/nurse or physician.Performs daily work assignments in an efficient, organized manner and with accuracy, such as assisting with inpatient/outpatient schedule coordination of patients.Provides education to patients, patient families, and nursing units regarding radiation therapy procedures.Retrieves and/or creates patients’ electronic folders and accesses reports and other patient or exam data via O2 and ARIAMaintains supply par levels for linen, cleaning supplies, gloves etc. and restocks as neededPromptly reports equipment malfunctions.Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.These statements are intended to describe the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.
