ABOUT THEDACARE RADIATION ONCOLOGY:
The Radiation Oncology Department at ThedaCare is located within a state-of the-art, award-winning comprehensive cancer center in Appleton, WI. The Cancer program adheres to best practices and evidence-based treatment techniques, and includes a large progressive research and clinical trials program. The Radiation Oncology program achieved full ASTRO APEx accreditation in October 2022. 60-80 patients per day are treated on two Varian True Beam linear accelerators (Installed 2015) with Varian RGSC and Align RT capability, Accuray CyberKnife S7 robotic accelerator (Installed 2020), and a Nucletron microSelectron HDR after-loader. The department also has a new Canon Aquilion Exceed Large Bore CT simulator (Installed 2021). Aria and Eclipse treatment planning, Precision Cyberknife treatment planning, Oncentra Brachytherapy treatment planning, MIM software with AI contouring, Radformation’s ClearCheck and EZFluence software, and Rad Calc. The successful candidate will join an experienced team of 4 Medical Dosimetrists, 2 Medical Physicists, 4 Radiation Oncologists, 2 Advanced Practice Clinicians, 12 Radiation Therapist and 8 Registered Nurses.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Applies critical thinking to implement appropriate radiation treatment techniques and procedures using established protocols.
Utilizes sophisticated imaging equipment and treatment planning systems for precise tumor localization. Performs portal imaging and image guidance radiation therapy procedures prior to radiation therapy treatment delivery.
Performs quality assurance procedures on linear accelerator and simulator prior to daily patient procedures to ensure accuracy. Detects non-standard performance of equipment and communicates appropriately according to departmental procedures.
Recognizes patient and family education needs with regard to the plan of care, assesses readiness to learn, and organizes and executes individualized teaching plans.
Collaborates with the multidisciplinary care team to effectively and efficiently provide patient care and achieve the desired outcomes. Knows and understands the expertise of disciplines outside of radiation therapy and encourages their involvement in the patient’s plan of care.
Identifies and participates in process improvement and problem solving in the work to decrease defects or barriers, enhance customer satisfaction, and reduce waste and cost.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or GED preferred
Must be 18 years of age
Certification in radiation therapy
A current registry by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance
May be exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Normally works in climate controlled office environment
Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments
Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
Occasional high noise level in work environment
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents
Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients
Use of computers throughout the work day
Frequent use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and fingers
