Summary

Under the general direction of the Chief Therapist, the Radiation Therapist II contributes to the Radiation Oncology Unit's organization, quality of patient care, and supports the organizational philosophy. Acts as a team leader to Radiation Therapist I, interacts with other department areas, and coordinates technical activities in emergencies or in the absence of the Chief Therapist. Applies ionizing radiation to patients as prescribed by physicians, following departmental standards, state guidelines, and hospital policies.

Responsibilities
  • Performs quality control procedures on equipment and reports malfunctions.
  • Acts as Charge Radiation Therapist when needed, conveying instructions from Radiation Oncologists, physicists, and dosimetrists.
  • Manages patient scheduling, including simulations and treatments, to prevent delays.
  • Performs CT-Sim procedures, prepares rooms, and monitors patients during simulations.
  • Executes complex procedures like 4D CT Respiratory Gating, HDR, TBI, SRS, SBRT, and contrast studies, monitoring for adverse reactions.
  • May serve as a Preceptor for Radiation Therapist I and new staff, role modeling and instructing.
  • Participates in departmental rotations, on-call duties, and other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Prepares treatment rooms and equipment, performs imaging, and documents treatments accurately.
  • Collaborates with physicians and physics staff during simulations and treatments.
  • Follows all radiation safety measures (ALARA).
  • Maintains patient documentation in Aria, performs quality assurance, and reviews charges.
  • Ensures patient education and addresses concerns, referring to appropriate resources.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Radiation Therapy program with an AS degree in Radiation Therapy or Radiologic Sciences.
  • ARRT Registered Technologist in Radiation Therapy or eligible, with certification within one month of employment.
  • Current BLS certification from American Heart Association.
  • Minimum of 3 years related work experience.

Includes lifting, bending, standing, and operating equipment, with specific physical requirements listed in detail.
