Job description

This position provides radiation therapy treatments and related clinical services as a fully independent practitioner with in-depth knowledge of radiation therapy operations, patient care, treatment delivery, simulation support, imaging workflows, documentation, and quality standards. This role serves as a resource to less experienced therapists and contributes to process improvement, competency development, and reliable clinical operations.

Nature and Scope:

The Radiation Therapist II delivers radiation therapy treatments and demonstrates consistent, independent performance across core clinical duties, including treatment delivery, patient positioning, imaging workflows, documentation, and on-call expectations. The incumbent applies sound clinical judgment to routine and moderately complex cases and ensures compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards. The Radiation Therapist II independently performs routine and moderately complex treatment delivery, CT simulation, imaging, HDR support, and special treatment procedures within documented competency scope. This role requires strong problem-solving and communication skills, including the ability to recognize issues, take appropriate action within defined scope, and escape when needed. The incumbent contributes to a team-based environment and may provide guidance to less experienced staff, while continuing to build advanced competencies. The incumbent serves as a resource for Radiation Therapist I staff by reinforcing standard work, answering workflow questions, supporting onboarding or competency development, and sharing practical knowledge within defined scope. The Radiation Therapist II supports operational efficiency by maintaining workflow expectations, managing assigned responsibilities, assisting with onboarding or student education, and adapting to daily patient care needs. While this role may support peers and contribute to team coordination, it does not have responsibility for workflow oversight or assignment management. This position does provide patient care. The Radiation Therapist II contributes to process improvement by identifying recurring workflow, documentation, safety, or patient care issues and recommending practical solutions to the lead therapist or department leadership. The incumbent maintains and demonstrates Level II competency expectations, including gated breathing procedures, SRS/SBRT/SRT, DIBH and 4D scans, IV contrast administration and infiltrate response, discontinuing PIVs, HDR CT scan, HDR treatment process, HDR safety protocols, HDR equipment maintenance/processing, and participation in department committees, or workgroups, or quality improvement studies as assigned to support ACR accreditation readiness, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of radiation therapy practices. The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based upon physical, motor/sensory, psychosocial, and safety needs appropriate to children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients and families.
