Responsibilities

What does the Radiation Therapist do?

The Radiation Therapist, under direct supervision, administers radiation therapy treatments to patients. Precision in positioning the radiation beam and delivering the prescribed dose are critical. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Accurately delivering and recording radiation treatments under the supervision of a radiation oncologist and chief radiation therapist.
• Entering and maintaining patient treatment parameters in the electronic medical record.
• Assisting in maintaining the patient appointment schedule and submitting correct billing information.
• Cutting blocks as applicable.
• Making custom molds.
• Performing simple MU calculations.
• Interpreting computerized treatment plans.
• Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Qualifications

Ideal candidate:

• Graduated from an accredited radiation therapy technology program.
• ARRT certification is required, along with a valid state license for radiation therapy.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands include sitting, using hands, standing, walking, reaching, and occasionally lifting up to 30 pounds. Vision and hearing should be corrected to normal ranges. The work environment is typical of a healthcare setting, with accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
