Job summary

Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, Inc. is seeking a Radiation Therapist to administer radiation treatments and ensure machine accuracy in a fast‑paced hospital setting.

You will verify patient identity, obtain signed consent, and perform daily machine warm‑ups under the radiation oncologist's prescriptions. Experience is entry‑level with potential for promotion to Senior Radiation Therapist after several years.

Qualifications

• High school graduate with 24‑month radiological technology course and 12‑month radiation therapy course.
• Board‑eligible or ARRT (T) certification required per state rules.

Responsibilities

• Identify patients using two identifiers and ensure consent is on file.
• Deliver approved radiation treatment as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
• Perform morning warm‑up/calibration on treatment machines.
• Verify machine operation and report malfunctions to physicist/engineers.
• Maintain professional interactions with staff, patients, and visitors.

Job description

Administers accurate ionizing radiation to patients in accordance with prescriptions and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. May or may not be called upon to perform the duties of CT/Simulation Technologist.

Responsibilities

• Correctly identifies the patient using two identifiers. In‑house patients’ wristbands are used as an identifier. Other identifiers are name, DOB, driver’s license, and a patient photo.
• Delivers approved and accurate radiation treatment prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
• Checks for signed treatment consent by the patient or patient’s representative and the attending physician.
• Performs morning warm up (calibration) on treatment machines.
• Verifies radiation treatment machine to be in working order (within machine tolerance levels). Documents the morning readings.
• Informs physicist and engineers of machine malfunctions.
• Has full knowledge of radiation equipment, malfunctions and erratic machine operation. Notifies physicist and/or engineer immediately when situation occurs.
• Interacts with co‑workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the Hospital.

Education and Training Requirements

• High school graduate who has completed a 24‑month course in radiological technology as well as a 12‑month course in radiation therapy.
• OR high school graduate who has satisfactorily completed a 24‑month course in radiation therapy technology.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registration

• All therapists must be certified and yearly registered in radiation therapy technology by the ARRT (T) or hold a current license as required by the state.
• Board‑eligible therapists must obtain ARRT board certification.

Experience Requirements

Entry level with subsequent promotion to Senior Radiation Therapist after a minimum of three years of experience as a staff Radiation Therapist.
