Job summary

UCLA Health in Los Angeles is seeking a Radiation Therapist for a per diem role. You will support patient care by performing dose calculations, scheduling, data entry, and collaborating with physicians, physicists, and dosimetrists during simulations and treatment planning CTs.

The position involves administering ionizing radiation per prescriptions, ensuring safe, accurate, and compassionate care, with a schedule of Monday through Friday 7:00am–5:00pm, rotating across UCLA Health Radiation

Qualifications

• BLS certification from AHA or ARC is required.
• ARRT certification and California CRT license are required.
• Experience with MR/CT HDR and Linear Accelerators; ability to recognize hazardous conditions.
• Ability to work in a high-volume, team-oriented clinical setting.
• Strong communication with patients and relatives; ability to read medical terminology and treatment plans.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Chief Radiation Therapy Technologist, this role supports the delivery of patient care through a variety of clinical and administrative functions. Key responsibilities include scheduling appointments, performing dose calculations, entering treatment data, and collaborating with physicians, physicists, and dosimetrists during simulations and treatment planning CTs.

The technologist will also administer ionizing radiation in accordance with physician prescriptions and perform basic patient care duties, ensuring safe, accurate, and compassionate treatment for patients undergoing radiation therapy.

This is a per diem position, may convert to career.

This position will rotate at all UCLA Health Radiation Oncology sites.

Salary: $117.99 hourly

Required:

• BLS from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification and California State License in Radiation Therapy (CRT
  
• Skill in working with different types of treatment machines such as MR Scanner, CT Scanner, HDR units and Linear Accelerators and ability to recognize when hazardous conditions may exist.
  
• Ability to work as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues.
  
• Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and their relatives in a high volume, continuous public contact setting.
  
• Ability to deal with the pressures of a critical care area.
  
• Skill in inspecting treatment machines to assure they conform to present standards.
• Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload, machine breakdowns, heavy patient volume and emergency cases.
  
• Ability to lift cerrobend blocks weighing up to 35 pounds.
  
• Knowledge of basic physics as applicable to Radiation Therapy.
  
• Skill in communicating various technical aspects of Radiation Therapy at a level understood by patients.
  
• Knowledge of a variety of treatment techniques to assist physicians in treatment planning to ensure optimum treatment is given to all patients.
  
• Skill in recognizing and reporting any adverse patient therapy reactions.
  
• Skill in reading documents written with medical terminology and ability to read and implement computer-generated physics treatment plans.
  
• Knowledge of basic nursing procedures.
• Working knowledge of University procedures regarding isolation of immuno-suppressed patients.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians and physicists.
