Job summary

UCLA Health is seeking a Radiation Therapist to contribute to world-class care at multiple Santa Monica area clinics. You will apply ionizing radiation per MD prescriptions, schedule patients, and perform dose calculations.

You’ll work with physicians, physicists and dosimetrists to support simulations and CT-based treatment planning, with rotating assignments across several Westside sites. The position is onsite with a 7:00am–5:00pm, Monday–Friday schedule and requires ARRT/CRT licensure,

Qualifications

• ARRT and CRT licensure required for Radiation Therapy.
• BLS/CPR certification from AHA or ARC.
• Experience with treatment machines and dose calculations.
• Ability to coordinate patients and information efficiently.
• Strong communication with medical staff and patients.

In this role, you will work under the general supervisor of the Chief Radiation Therapy Technologist and your functions will include:

• Applying ionizing radiation according to MD's prescription (3D,IMRT,SBRT,SRS,HDR)
• Patient scheduling and appointments
• Performing dose calculations
• Working with physicians, physicists and dosimetrists to perform simulations and treatment planning CT's

This position will be rotating in Westwood (Los Angeles), Santa Monica, Santa Clarita, and El Segundo clinic locations, as well as other future sites as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Required:

• ARRT License
  
• CRT License
  
• BLS/CPR from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  
• Skill in working with different types of treatment machines such as MR Scanner, CT Scanner, HDR units and Linear Accelerators and ability to recognize when hazardous conditions may exist.
  
• Skill in inspecting treatment machines to assure they conform to present standards.
  
• Skill in organizing and coordinating material, patients, and information in a systematic way to optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort.
  
• Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload, machine breakdowns, heavy patient volume and emergency cases.
  
• Ability to lift cerrobend blocks weighing up to 35 pounds.
  
• Knowledge of basic physics as applicable to Radiation Therapy.
  
• Ability to use an electronic calculator to perform dose calculations.
  
• Skill in communicating various technical aspects of Radiation Therapy at a level understood by patients.
  
• Ability to communicate on a one-to-one basis using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain information, explain treatment procedures, and to clearly convey information to medical staff, patients, and administrators.
  
• Knowledge of a variety of treatment techniques to assist physicians in treatment planning to ensure optimum treatment is given to all patients.
  
• Skill in recognizing and reporting any adverse patient therapy reactions.
  
• Knowledge of the principles and applications of thermo-luminescent dosimeters.
  
• Skill in reading documents written with medical terminology and ability to read and implement computer-generated physics treatment plans.
  
• Knowledge of basic nursing procedures.
  
• Working knowledge of University procedures regarding isolation of immuno-suppressed patients.
