Job summary

Trinity Health Oakland is seeking a Radiation Therapist to support the radiation treatment process under the direction of the radiation oncologist and a certified therapist. The role emphasizes accurate treatment delivery, calibration, patient positioning, and cross-team collaboration in a fast-paced cancer care setting.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in Radiation Therapy (or equivalent radiologic pathway) and ARRT certification or registry-eligibility, with registration completed

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Radiation Therapy or completion of a two-year Radiologic Technology program followed by a one-year Radiation Therapy program.
• Minimum of 3 months of on-the-job training or experience.
• ARRT certification or registry-eligible; must be registered or registry-eligible upon hire; must complete registration within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the review of a patient's treatment record for completeness.
• Confers with physicians, physics/dosimetry, and colleagues for clarification before/during/after treatment as needed.
• Review electronic chart (Aria) and patient treatment record for consistency, completeness, and accuracy prior to treatment delivery.
• Prepare treatment room and equipment; explain procedures to patients per department standards.
• Follow patient positioning standards and treatment processes per established policies.
• Monitor patient during procedures and report any change in condition to the physician or appropriate staff.
• Assist in simulation and treatment planning and other procedures in radiation oncology as needed.
• Acquire imaging via CBCT or portal imaging as prescribed by the physician.
• Review images for alignment; adjust as needed to ensure accurate treatment delivery.
• Schedule patients for treatment and simulations in Aria; ensure timing and coordination.
• Inspect equipment safety interlocks and report malfunctions.
• Submit charges for services rendered per guidelines.
• Participate in clinical education and training of students.
• Adhere to ALARA guidelines during all procedures.

POSITION PURPOSE:

At the direction of the radiation oncologist, and in tandem with a certified Radiation Therapist, assists in the radiation treatment process according to established guidelines and polices/procedures.

What the Radiation Therapist will do:

• Assists in the review of a patient's treatment record for completeness.

• Confers with physicians, physics/dosimetry, and their colleagues for clarification prior to, during, and after treatment when necessary.

• Supports the review of the electronic chart (Aria) and patient treatment record for consistency, completeness, and accuracy prior to treatment delivery.

• Prepares treatment room and equipment according to established procedures. Explains procedures to patients according to departmental standards.

• Follows standards in positioning of patients and follows treatment processes according to established policies and procedures.

• Monitors patient during procedures at all times and reports any change in condition, psychologic, or physiologic to the physician or other appropriate patient care personnel.

• Assists in the simulation and treatment planning process and other procedures occurring within the department of radiation oncology when necessary.

• Acquires imaging via CBCT or portal imaging as prescribed by the physician.

• Appropriately and thoroughly reviews images prior to treatment, ensuring alignment falls within allowable tolerances. Makes shifts and/or realigns patients when necessary to ensure the most accurate treatment delivery

• Schedules patients for treatment and simulations per department guidelines in the Aria scheduling system.

• Inspects all equipment safety interlocks, monitors equipment, and reports malfunctions.

• Submits charges into the computer systems for services rendered to patients in accordance with established guidelines.

• Participates in the clinical education and training of students.

• Adheres to ALARA guidelines during all procedures.

• Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Trinity Health.

• Other duties as assigned.

What the Radiation Therapist will need:

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Radiation Therapy or completion of a two (2) year program in Radiologic Technology followed by a one (1) year program in Radiation Therapy.

Experience: Minimum of 3 months of on the job training or experience.

Certification: CPR.ARRT (American Registry for Radiologic Technologists) for radiation therapy. Must be registered or registry-eligible upon hire. Registry-eligible candidates must successfully complete registration within 6 months of hire.
