Job summary

Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital is seeking a part-time Radiation Therapist in the Radiation Oncology department. You will work the Day Shift under the radiation oncologist and collaborate with a certified Radiation Therapist to support treatment delivery according to established guidelines.

Required are a Bachelor's Degree in Radiation Therapy or equivalent education, ARRT certification (registry-eligible within 6 months), and BLS certification.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Radiation Therapy or completion of a 2-year Radiologic Technology program followed by a 1-year Radiation Therapy program.
  • ARRT certification required; must be registered or registry-eligible within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS from American Heart Association is required.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient treatment records for completeness.
  • Consult with physicians and physics/dosimetry staff when needed.
  • Review electronic chart (Aria) and treatment records for consistency and accuracy before delivery.
  • Prepare treatment room and equipment; explain procedures to patients.
  • Position patients according to standards and follow treatment processes.
  • Monitor patient during procedures; report any changes in condition.
  • Assist in simulation and planning and other duties in radiation oncology as needed.
  • Acquire CBCT or portal images as prescribed by the physician.
  • Review images to ensure alignment; adjust as necessary for accurate delivery.
  • Schedule patients for treatment and simulations in Aria system.
  • Inspect equipment interlocks; report malfunctions.
  • Submit charges for services rendered per guidelines.
  • Participate in clinical education and training of students.
  • Adhere to ALARA guidelines during procedures.

Position Purpose:

At the direction of the radiation oncologist, and in tandem with a certified Radiation Therapist, assists in the radiation treatment process according to established guidelines and polices/procedures.

Required Qualifications:
Education:

A Bachelor's Degree in Radiation Therapy or completion of a two (2) year program in Radiologic Technology followed by a one (1) year program in Radiation Therapy.

Experience:

Minimum of 3 months of on the job training or experience.

Certification:

ARRT (American Registry for Radiologic Technologists) for radiation therapy. Must be registered or registry-eligible upon hire. Registry-eligible candidates must successfully complete registration within 6 months of hire.

BLS from American Heart Association.

What the Radiation Therapist will do:
  • Assists in the review of a patient’s treatment record for completeness.
  • Confers with physicians, physics/dosimetry, and their colleagues for clarification prior to, during, and after treatment when necessary.
  • Supports the review of the electronic chart (Aria) and patient treatment record for consistency, completeness, and accuracy prior to treatment delivery.
  • Prepares treatment room and equipment according to established procedures. Explains procedures to patients according to departmental standards.
  • Follows standards in positioning of patients and follows treatment processes according to established policies and procedures.
  • Monitors patient during procedures at all times and reports any change in condition, psychologic, or physiologic to the physician or other appropriate patient care personnel.
  • Assists in the simulation and treatment planning process and other procedures occurring within the department of radiation oncology when necessary.
  • Acquires imaging via CBCT or portal imaging as prescribed by the physician.
  • Appropriately and thoroughly reviews images prior to treatment, ensuring alignment falls within allowable tolerances. Makes shifts and/or realigns patients when necessary to ensure the most accurate treatment delivery
  • Schedules patients for treatment and simulations per department guidelines in the Aria scheduling system.
  • Inspects all equipment safety interlocks, monitors equipment, and reports malfunctions.
  • Submits charges into the computer systems for services rendered to patients in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Participates in the clinical education and training of students.
  • Adheres to ALARA guidelines during all procedures.
