Major Responsibilities
- Provide for accurate delivery of prescribed dose of radiation
- 1)Calculate treatment units according to prescription and parameters.
- 2)Assist physicians with various procedures by making suggestions with regards to technical limitations of equipment, dosimetry, and/or patients ability to successfully receive therapy.
- Identify, manage, and document changes in patient status.
- 1)Instruct patients regarding skin care, nutrition, etc. as necessary.
- 2)Send patients for blood tests as prescribed by physician.
- Promote quality care of patients and equipment within department.
- 1)Report equipment malfunctions.
- 2)Maintain daily log of patient treatments.
- 3)Take weekly verification films
- 4)Comply with State and Accrediting Organization requirements regarding radiation safety.
Education/Experience Required
- Graduate of AMA approved Radiation Therapy school.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
- Knowledge of multi-energy linear accelerator.
- Registry eligible by A.R.R.T. I.D.N.S. License
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
- High energy radiation exposure. Must be able to work with minimal supervision. Conscientious in providing high quality patient care. Stress related problems due to dealing with patients who have terminal illness. Physical exertion due to heavy lifting of patients who are unable to move themselves.
- If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
