Job Title: Radiation Therapist
As a Radiation Therapist, you will provide radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by a radiation oncologist, adhering to established practices and standards. You will be responsible for reviewing prescriptions and diagnoses, preparing equipment (including immobilization, treatment, and protection devices), acting as a liaison with physicians and support personnel, and maintaining accurate patient records and reports.
Essential Functions
- Provide patient orientation, explain procedures, and offer pre- and post-diagnostic care until completion of treatment.
- Perform complete diagnostic imaging tests, including patient positioning, equipment calibration, and documentation of findings under the direction of the physician.
- Assist patients with basic care needs in a clinical setting.
- Provide emergency care when necessary, notifying the appropriate personnel and ensuring patient safety.
- Discuss treatment plans developed in partnership with clinical oncologists and physicians, explaining the radiation treatment process and its potential side effects.
- Determine the correct radiation dosage, location, and treatment area for each patient.
- Help patients understand and manage potential side effects of radiation therapy.
- Safely administer the correct radiotherapy treatment to patients using the appropriate medical equipment.
- Ensure all medical equipment is maintained and operating in excellent condition.
- Accurately maintain patient records, documenting the patient’s treatment regimen and progress.
Experience
- Minimum of 1-2 years of prior experience as a Radiation Therapist in a hospital or clinic setting is preferred.
- Open to new graduates with relevant training, though experience with Varian Trilogy and IXPro is highly preferred.
- Proficiency with Varian linear accelerators is essential.
- Knowledge of GE and Philips CT scanners is a plus.
- Proficient in all types of radiation treatment plans and protocols.
Requirements
- Education: Completion of at least a two-year approved School of Radiation Therapy.
- Experience: One year of full-time experience as a Radiation Therapist.
- Licensure: Valid state radiology registration as required by state law.
- Certification: Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
- Certifications: Current CPR/BLS certification.
