Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates prescribed imaging and changes within 24 hours; documents in EHR.
  • Reviews new starts for consistency; verifies positioning and parameters.
  • Performs morning QA on the treatment unit and reports malfunctions.
  • Maintains department supplies; mentors students as needed.
  • Participates in after-hours on-call coverage; performs 2D calculations.
  • Verifies physician's prescription and treatment parameters daily.
  • Identifies treatment volume; positions patient reproducibly.
  • Addresses patient needs; consults supervisor as necessary.
  • Treats patients timely and courteously; communicates effectively.
  • Performs CT Simulation including contrast administration.

Job Description:

  • Evaluates prescribed imaging and makes requested changes within 24 hours, accurately documenting treatment information in the patient electronic record and utilizing the record and verify system.
  • Reviews all new starts for consistency prior to treatment, verifying patient positioning and field orientation, and checking the record and verify system for prescription, treatment parameters, doses, treatment accessories, and monitor units.
  • Performs morning Quality Assurance (QA) on the treatment unit, assessing whether all equipment is operating according to physics policy and calling the appropriate person immediately after equipment malfunctions.
  • Assists in maintaining department supplies and provides supervised education experiences for students that fulfill curriculum requirements of the academic institution.
  • As required by facility, participates in after hours on-call coverage, maintains competency with afterhours treatment coverage, performs 2D treatment calculations, and works with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Verifies the physician’s prescription and treatment parameters daily to ensure accurate treatment of the patient in accordance with the prescription and treatment plan.
  • Identifies the treatment volume and positions the patient in a consistent and reproducible manner.
  • Assesss patients’ needs and actively seeks to resolve any potential problems or conflicts, consulting with the chief therapist/supervisor as necessary.
  • Treats patients in a timely and courteous manner, handling stressful situations appropriately and communicating effectively with patients of all ages.
  • Clinically observes patient reactions to treatment and assists in accommodating the patient through the treatment process.
  • Performs all aspects of CT Simulation, including administering contrast agents during simulation localization under the direction of a physician or non-physician practitioner. Other duties as assigned. Immediately reports and documents adverse reactions to the managing physician and site leaders.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Computer literate
  • Proficiency in Electronic Health Records and record and verify systems
  • Knowledge of anatomical structures for localization
  • Technical skills to accomplish treatment plans proposed by Radiation Oncologists
  • Ability to learn and use Radiation Therapy software packages
  • Quick adaptability to departmental policies and procedures
  • Maintenance of required registries and licenses for Radiation Therapy
  • Understanding of Basic Radiation Safety concepts to keep exposure levels ALARA for patients and staff
  • Proficient in the use of Linear Accelerator, Treatment Planning Simulator, and patient tracking and scheduling systems
  • Excellent clerical skills for record keeping
  • Knowledge of radiobiology, doses to critical structures, and lymphatics for spread of disease
  • Effective communication skills and ability to handle delicate or stressful issues with tact
  • Physical and mental capability to perform job duties, including the ability to walk and stand for the majority of the workday, and handle weights of 35 pounds or greater
  • Familiarity with a range of medical devices and systems including patient dose monitors, portal imaging systems, and patient immobilization devices
  • Fluent in the English language and able to comprehend both written and verbal instructions
  • Organizational, interpersonal, and customer relations skills
  • Competence in grammar, spelling, keyboarding, and computer usage
Education:
  • High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
  • Technical/Vocational School [Required]
Field of Study:
  • Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiation Therapy program
Work Experience:
  • 1+ radiation therapy experience [Preferred]
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Certified Radiologic Technologists (CRT) [Required] OR
  • Registered Technologist - Radiography (R.T.(R)ARRT)) [Required]
  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
