Job summary

Anchorage & Valley Radiation Therapy Centers in Alaska seeks a Radiation Therapist to join a patient-centered team. The role involves advanced treatment planning, patient positioning, and QA duties in a supportive setting.

Graduate from an accredited Radiation Therapy program with ARRT-RT and current BLS is required, plus at least one year of clinical experience. Relocation assistance and a strong benefits package support work-life balance.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
  • Certified by ARRT in Radiation Therapy (ARRT-RT).
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Compliance with annual mandatory education.
  • Compliance with annual immunization requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare treatment room prior to patient entering.
  • Identify patient using four identifiers prior to procedure.
  • Review and interpret patient chart during treatment.
  • Verify radiation prescription, treatment plan, QA docs before simulation and treatment.
  • Set up immobilization devices and align patient per plan.
  • Monitor patient and take appropriate actions during treatment.
  • Record treatment data in chart or verification system.
  • Collaborate with team and respond to therapy suggestions.
  • Perform CT simulation as directed by Radiation Oncologist.
  • Attend departmental/interdisciplinary meetings as requested.

Essential Functions
  • Prepare treatment room prior to patient entering.
  • Identify patient using four (4) identifiers prior to any procedure/treatment.
  • Review and interpret patient chart throughout the course of radiation treatment.
  • Review and verify approved radiation prescription, treatment plan, MU check document, IMRT/VMAT QA, and setup information prior to clinical simulation and treatment.
  • Properly setup immobilization devices, position and align patient according to treatment plan and setup notes.
  • Monitor patient throughout treatment and take proper actions as needed.
  • Record pertinent treatment data in chart or verification system as per department policy.
  • Perform procedure in an orderly and confident manner. When assigned to work as a team of therapists, respond appropriately to suggestions made during patient treatment.
  • Perform CT simulation as directed by Radiation Oncologist.
  • Attend departmental or inter-disciplinary meetings as requested.
Education, Certification And Licensure
  • Graduate of an accredited program in Radiation Therapy.
  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist in Radiation Therapy.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Compliance with annual mandatory education.
  • Compliance with annual immunization requirements.
Experience
  • No less than one (1) year of radiation therapy experience in a clinical setting.
Technical Competencies
  • Knowledge in up-to-date radiation therapy techniques and treatments.
  • Knowledge in principles, practices, and procedures involved in the operation of ionizing radiation therapy equipment.
  • Possess a working knowledge of radiation safety utilizing the ALARA philosophy.
  • Critical Thinking skills; using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Complex Problem Solving skills, identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Strong Judgment and Decision Making skills; considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Time Management skills; managing one's own time and the time of others.
  • Coordination and Collaborative competencies; adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.
  • Inductive and Deductive Reasoning skills; combining pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
Work Environment
  • Exposure to odorous chemicals and specimens.
  • Occasional travel between centers and within city is required.
  • Frequent contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
  • May be exposed to radiation and strong magnetic fields.
  • May be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
Physical Requirements
  • Work requires the ability to lift or push up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Work requires the employee to stand and walk throughout the day.
  • Work requires long periods of typing, and/or viewing written or digital reports and data.
  • Work requires repetitive movement of hands, arms and legs.
  • Work requires the employee to push, pull or lift objects and/or patients aided or unaided.
