Job summary

Charles River Laboratories is seeking a Radiation Safety Officer to lead EHSS and NRC programs, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations and protecting staff health and safety. The role supervises project teams and implements sustainable safety processes across the site.

The candidate will manage isotope inventory, dose monitoring, waste handling, and training programs, serving as liaison with NRC and other regulators while coordinating safety committees and audits to maintain

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Environmental Health and Safety with 5+ years EHSS experience.
• Equivalents may be accepted in lieu of specific education requirements.
• RADIATION Safety Officer certification required.

Responsibilities

• Establish, administer and update EHSS programs for OSHA, EPA, DOT, NRC compliance.
• Implement radiation safety program: isotope inventory, licensing docs, dose tracking.
• Ensure licensed material transport complies with NRC/DOT requirements.
• Train personnel in handling radioactive materials and conduct refresher training.
• Coordinate radioactive waste disposal and conduct regulatory recordkeeping.
• Serve as liaison with NRC and other regulatory authorities; lead safety committee meetings.
