State of South Carolina is seeking an entry‑level Radiation Protection Specialist I to perform regulatory duties in the Radiation Protection Program. You will assist with inspections of x‑ray facilities, investigate inquiries, and help ensure safe use of radiation‑producing equipment across SC facilities.

The role emphasizes inspections, reporting, and collaboration with supervisors and facility personnel, with on‑the‑job training and a remote work option after one year based on function.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health.
• Bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may substitute for required work experience.
• Degrees in related technical fields include Earth sciences, chemistry, biology, physics, environmental science, mathematics, etc.

Responsibilities

• Inspect x-ray equipment in dental, medical, hospital, industrial, academic facilities to determine radiation exposure and recommend corrections.
• Prepare reports detailing findings and noncompliance; ensure inspections are recorded in the agency system and documents scanned/uploaded.
• Consult with end users, applicants, and vendors on regulation interpretation and radiation safety; assist with enforcement actions and fees.
• Attend and participate in seminars, conferences, and training on radiation protection.
• Perform other related duties as required; on‑the‑job training provided; two vacancies to fill.
