Job Summary

Location: Geisinger Cancer Center, Dickson City. Shift: Days. Weekly Hours: 40. Worker Type: Regular.

The Department of Radiation Oncology at Geisinger Health System seeks a medical physicist to join our team in central Pennsylvania. The candidate will handle all aspects of clinical physics services, supervising dosimetry, calibration, treatment planning, and safety equipment operations, maintaining equipment, regulatory records, and billing, contributing to research, and providing education to residency programs.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical support of linear accelerator treatments, including patient simulation, image fusion, treatment planning, secondary dose calculation, and plan quality assurance.
  • Special emphasis on stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), high‑dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy, and total body irradiation (TBI) treatment planning, secondary dose verification, and plan quality assurance.
  • Clinical support of brachytherapy procedures, including simulation, planning, secondary dose verification, delivery, and safety reviews; management of HDR equipment purchase, maintenance, QA, and seed implant support and documentation.
  • Preparation and updates of physics and dosimetry policies and procedures.
  • Daily, monthly, and annual quality assurance testing for therapeutic and diagnostic software and equipment throughout the department.
  • Involvement in the residency program, including development and instruction of a new radiobiology curriculum for physicist and radiation‑oncology residents.
  • Coordination of physics aspects of the department’s research program, supporting existing departmental and national protocols and developing new physics‑oriented projects.
  • Travel for interdepartmental collaboration, training on new equipment, software or modalities, and participation in national meetings and conferences.
  • Other physics duties such as commissioning of software and new equipment, radiation shielding calculations, and in‑vivo patient dose verification.
  • Experience with Radixact and/or CyberKnife is desired.
Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Medical Physics (required).
  • Preferred: additional education or specialty certification from a recognized issuing body.
  • Analytical thinking and assessment skills.
  • Strong communication and instructional abilities.
