Job summary

Ardent Health Services in Pocatello, ID is seeking a day shift, full-time Cancer Center Radiation Physicist to join Portneuf Medical Center's radiation oncology team. The role focuses on medical radiation physics support and patient care quality.

Responsibilities include developing analytical techniques, mathematical modelling, QA programs, and ensuring safe, accurate treatment while training staff and writing reports. ABR-certified supervision preferred.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Medical Physics or Physics.
  • 2+ years of clinical experience under ABR supervision.
  • Current ABR licensure in Radiological or Therapeutic Physics; board-eligible candidates may be considered.
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions and apply them independently.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical radiation physics support to Radiation Oncology, Nuclear Medicine and Radiology.
  • Research, develop, and evaluate analytical techniques.
  • Develop mathematical modelling for treatment planning.
  • Maintain equipment and systems management.
  • Plan and ensure safe and accurate treatment, advise on radiation protection.
  • Teach, train, and update staff across medical disciplines.
  • Manage radiotherapy quality assurance programs and write reports.

  • Portneuf Medical Center (PMC) is a nationally recognized healthcare leader with 205 beds, serving as the region's Level II Trauma Center and tertiary referral hospital and is home to the Portneuf Heart and Vascular Institute, Portneuf Cancer Center, Portneuf Medical Group and Portneuf Air Rescue. PMC has a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, an adult intensive care unit, nationally recognized orthopedic services, a full suite of cardiac care, Center of Excellence recognized surgeons, imaging, primary and specialty care.
Responsibilities

The Radiation Physicist provides medical radiation physics support to Radiation Oncology, Nuclear Medicine and Radiology in accordance with the highest standards of practice and as required by regulatory agencies under the sponsorship of a Radiation Oncologist.

  • Researches, develops, and evaluates new analytical techniques.
  • Develops mathematical modelling.
  • Maintains equipment and systems management.
  • Plans and ensures safe and accurate treatment of patients in addition to providing advice about radiation protection.
  • Teaches, trains, and updates healthcare, scientific and technical staff.
  • Manages radiotherapy quality assurance programs.
  • Writes reports.
Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree of Science in Medical Physics or Physics.
  • 2+ years of clinical experience under the preceptorship of a physicist certified by the American Board of Radiology in Radiological or Therapeutic Physics.
  • Current licensure with the American Board of Radiology in Radiological or Therapeutic Physics.
    • A board-eligible candidate working under the oversight of an ABR-certified Medical Radiation Physicist may be considered with intent to become board certified.
  • Must be able to take verbal instruction and practically apply it without direct supervision.
