Job summary

Inova Health System invites applications for a Radiation Physicist in Fairfax, VA. This full-time, day-shift role offers an opportunity to work closely with radiation oncologists and therapy teams to enhance patient care.

A sign-on bonus is eligible, and the position requires ABR board certification and a minimum of three years of clinical medical physics experience. The candidate will engage in research, education for medical students and residents, and quality assurance of treatment plans,

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Physics or related field required.
• ABR certification required; state inspector within 3 months of hire.
• Minimum 3 years of clinical medical physics experience.
• Knowledge of scripting preferred; RayStation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Designs, and performs research projects and promotes research outputs.
• Provides educational activities to medical students and physics residents.
• Supports dosimetry and radiation therapy teams in patient treatment planning.
• Collaborates with radiation oncologists on all aspects of patient care.
• Develops and performs routine QA of treatment plans and systems.
• Validates new devices and tools for patient treatment.

Job Responsibilities:

• Designs, and performs research projects and promotes research outputs.
• Provides educational activities to medical school students, dosimetry students, therapy students, and medical physics residents.
• Provides support to the dosimetry team in treatment planning.
• Provides support to the radiation therapy team in patient treatment.
• Works closely with radiation oncologists in every aspect of patient's radiation therapy care.
• Develops, and performs routine quality assurance of patient's plan and the system.
• Validates new devices, equipment or tools for patient's treatment.

Additional Requirements

• A master's degree in Physics or a related field is required, a doctoral degree in Physics or a related field is preferred
• Minimum 3 years experience in Clinical Medical Physics
• The American Board of Radiology (ABR) certified required
• Virginia Inspector within the first 3 months of hire, but must have submitted the application to the State at time of hire
• Availability to work outside of normal business hours (nights and weekends) is required
• Knowledge of scripting is preferred
• Experience with Raystation treatment planning system is preferred
• Prior experience with proton therapy is preferred
• Strong communication skills - both orally and in writing are required
