Job summary

Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute seeks a Radiation Oncology Physicist II to support the radiation therapy team with physics, planning and QA to deliver high-quality, safe treatments. The role involves chart reviews, plan checks and supervision of special procedures while advancing new technologies.

The successful candidate will have a Master’s in Physics/Medical Physics, ABR board certification, and at least two years of clinical experience with modern accelerators and planning systems,

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Physics, Medical Physics or closely related field.
• Board Certification in Therapeutic Physics by the American Board of Radiology or equivalent institution
• Two years Radiation Oncology Physics experience required; Mosaiq R&V system experience preferred; familiarity with listed accelerators and BrainLab Exactrac preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform monthly, annual and ongoing quality assurance per professional guidelines (AAPM) on linear accelerators, brachytherapy, and planning software.
• Conduct clinical tasks such as chart reviews, plan checks, patient-specific QA, and treatment plans for SRS/SBRT/HDR.
• Advise and collaborate with physicians and colleagues on clinical problem solving and technical troubleshooting.
• Assist in decision making, QA development, and training for new technologies introduced to the clinic.
• Participate in acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment and software.
• Contribute to education of radiation therapy students through didactic and clinical demonstrations.
• Maintain expertise in latest technologies and techniques in radiation oncology.

The Radiation Oncology Physicist II uses knowledge of radiation physics, treatment planning techniques and clinical problem‑solving skills to assist the Radiation Oncology team of physicians, dosimetrists, therapists and nurses to deliver radiation treatment of maximal quality safety and effectiveness. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Responsible for performing quality assurance on a monthly, annual, and on-going basis guided by professional recommendations of the AAPM. This includes, but is not limited to linear accelerator, brachytherapy, and treatment planning software QA.
• Performing clinical tasks, such as chart reviews, plan checks, patient specific quality assurance, performing treatment plans for special procedures (SRS/SBRT/HDR), and supervising special procedure treatments and simulations.
• Advising and collaborating with physician and professional colleagues in clinical problem solving and technical troubleshooting.
• Assisting in the decision making, quality assurance development, and ensuring adequate training for new technologies or techniques introduced to the clinic.
• Part of the team that performs acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment and software.
• Participates in the education of radiation therapy students through didactic and clinical demonstrations.
• Maintains expertise in the latest technologies and techniques in radiation oncology treatments.

Qualifications

Education:

• Master's degree in Physics, Medical Physics or closely related field

Licenses/Certifications:

• Board Certification in Therapeutic Physics by the American Board of Radiology or equivalent institution

Experience:

• Two (2) years Radiation Oncology Physics experience required
• Recent experience with the Mosaiq R&V system preferred
• Experience with Varian TrueBeam, C Series, Elekta Versa, Synergy and Infinity linear accelerators, and BrainLab Exactrac preferred
