This is a high-impact opportunity supporting a critical oncology program at the Baltimore VA Medical Center, one of the VA's premier healthcare facilities. The selected physician will play a vital role in ensuring timely access to life‑saving radiation oncology services while providing comprehensive cancer care to Veterans throughout the region.

VA leadership is committed to delivering exceptional oncology services and is seeking an experienced, board‑certified Radiation Oncology Physician who can provide outstanding clinical care, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the continued success of this essential Veteran care initiative.

You’ll practice in a collaborative, technology‑driven environment utilizing advanced treatment modalities including SRS, SBRT, IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, Varian Edge systems, Eclipse Treatment Planning, and ARIA workflows, while working alongside dedicated oncology professionals committed to delivering exceptional Veteran care.

Contract Length: September 1, 2026 - August 31, 2027

Contract Term: Base Year + Four (4) One-Year Option Periods

Schedule
  • Monday through Friday
  • 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • Clinic, consultations, treatment planning, simulations, and treatment oversight
  • Federal holidays excluded
Coverage Requirements
  • Minimum of eight (8) weeknight on-call shifts per month
  • Minimum of one (1) weekend on-call shift per month
  • Calls alternated with VA-employed physicians based on coverage needs
  • Additional coverage opportunities may be available on a case-by-case basis

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive radiation oncology consultations and follow‑up evaluations
  • Develop individualized treatment plans for oncology patients
  • Perform and supervise CT simulations and treatment planning activities
  • Oversee radiation therapy delivery and ensure treatment quality and safety
  • Utilize advanced treatment techniques including:
    • Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS)
    • Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SRT)
    • Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT)
    • Intensity‑Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
    • Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT)
    • 2D and 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy
  • Collaborate with medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiology, nursing, and support teams
  • Document patient care activities within VA electronic medical records
  • Participate in inpatient and outpatient radiation oncology services
  • Provide on‑call consultation and emergency radiation oncology support as required
  • Respond to urgent patient evaluations within required VA response timelines
Technology & Clinical Environment

The Radiation Oncology Service utilizes advanced technologies and systems, including:

  • Varian Linear Accelerators (Edge platform or equivalent)
  • Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
  • Cone Beam CT (CBCT)
  • Eclipse Treatment Planning System
  • ARIA Record & Verify System
  • Siemens SOMATOM go.Open Pro CT Simulator (or equivalent)
  • CPRS Electronic Medical Record System
Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
  • Board Certified in Radiation Oncology through the American Board of Radiology (ABR)
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Current ACLS Certification
Licensure
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory
Experience Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate:

  • Minimum 5 years of post‑residency Radiation Oncology experience

  • Minimum 3 years of continuous clinical practice within the last 5 years

  • Minimum 5 years of experience performing:

    • Radiation oncology consultations
    • CT simulation procedures
    • Treatment planning
    • Follow‑up patient management
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with:

    • Varian Linear Accelerators (Edge or equivalent)
    • Image‑Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
    • Cone Beam CT technology
    • Eclipse Treatment Planning System
    • ARIA Record & Verify System
    • 2D/3D Conformal Radiation Therapy
    • SRS, SRT, and SBRT
    • IMRT and VMAT treatment planning
  • Minimum 3 years of experience utilizing:

    • Siemens SOMATOM go.Open Pro CT Simulator (or equivalent)
    • CPRS Electronic Medical Record System
On‑Call Responsibilities

The selected physician must:

  • Be available for phone consultation with VA physicians and residents during assigned on‑call periods
  • Respond to urgent radiation oncology cases when medically indicated
  • Be available for patient evaluation within required VA response timelines
  • Provide treatment‑related support including:
    • Patient evaluation
    • Consent completion
    • Simulation and treatment planning
    • Radiation treatment supervision
    • Documentation and care coordination
