A leading healthcare provider is seeking an Oncology Nurse to coordinate care and communicate treatment plans to patients in Baltimore. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, extensive experience in oncology, and excellent communication skills. Responsibilities include managing patient education, collaborating with healthcare teams, and ensuring compliance with treatment protocols.
Under general supervision and in consultation with the responsible Radiation Oncologist, is responsible for coordinating, managing and communicating the plan of treatment to patients and their families. Specifically, the nurse assists in communications with patients, triages patients and patient issues, performs symptom management and teaches patients regarding their disease process and treatment. In addition, the nurse collaborates with the multi-disciplinary team and utilizes clinical outcomes data to support innovative and cost effective changes to clinical practice.
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Licensures/Certifications:
* Current Registered Nurse-State of Maryland
* OCN Preferred
* Current CPR Healthcare Provider
* ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Card or Certificate Preferred
Experience:
At least 3-5 years of diversified, progressive oncology nursing experience in acute care and/or outpatient settings within the cancer care continuum.
Skills:
* Ability to assess, triage and document medical information pertinent to the oncology patient
* Skill in oral and written communication to address patient/family and staff concerns.
* Demonstrated skill in problem solving using available resources in innovative ways.
* Interpersonal relationship skills in order to communicate effectively with the oncology care team.
* Computer and personal productivity skills to enable effective use of e-mail, the Internet, and word processing packages.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
* Provides caring, individual attention, compassion, and empathy to patients and their families in collaboration with the responsible Radiation Oncologist.
* Assesses patients' needs and provides education, medical information related to labs, radiology reports, or radiation oncology treatment plans as needed.
* Educate and initiate referrals to home care, palliative services and hospice. Supports ongoing education provided by the radiation oncology, physicians.
* Provides patient and family members with information and support, coordinating all aspects of care.
* Ensures timely communications to both referring and primary care physicians, and involves primary care physician in the care plan, when appropriate.
* Monitors patients' compliance with prescribed medications. Brings abnormal lab results/side effects to the physician's attention, affording an opportunity for dose adjustment, as needed.
* Participates in new patient consultations with the physician in an effort to provide continuity of care and a treatment plan. Identifies and supports patients who may require a higher level of care, and alerts the appropriate oncology care team members.
* Triages incoming telephone calls and provides symptom management and follow-up throughout continuum of care.

* I.V. contrast injection

Pay Range
$38.64 - $64.33Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
