Job summary

Vanderbilt University seeks a strategic Radiation and Laser Safety Officer (RLSO) to lead the university’s RLS program. You’ll partner with senior leadership to protect researchers, staff, and facilities, and you’ll direct audits, training, and policy modernization to ensure compliance.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in a relevant field.
• CHP, NRRPT or similar certification.
• 8+ years of progressive Radiation Safety management experience.
• Unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S.
• Ability to commute, or relocate, to Nashville TN.

Responsibilities

• Act as the organization’s Radiation Safety Officer, partnering with university leadership and PIs to mitigate risk and ensure best practices.
• Design and lead comprehensive training programs focused on RLS behaviors and compliance excellence.
• Direct all RLS audits, proactively developing and executing remediation plans.
• Build and sustain positive, transparent relationships with regulators and internal research stakeholders.
• Spearhead initiatives to modernize and refine RLS policies, programs, and safety software
