Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a TeraWave Radiation Engineer to own end-to-end radiation hardness assurance for LEO and MEO spacecraft, payloads, and avionics. You will define environments, margins, and requirements, evaluate designs and test data, and guide mitigation strategies across disciplines.

Responsibilities include shielding analyses, SEE/TID evaluation, and coordinating with external test facilities and parts teams. Relocation is provided; travel up to 15% may be required.

Qualifications

  • BS in EE, Nuclear, Physics, AerE, or related field.
  • 5+ years in spacecraft radiation effects, RHA, radiation test, or related.
  • Knowledge of TID and SEE mechanisms, radiation environment modeling, shielding, and mitigation.
  • Ability to derive and communicate radiation requirements across disciplines.
  • Experience coordinating with external radiation test facilities and part suppliers.
  • U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and execute the TeraWave RHA plan for LEO/MEO spacecraft and subsystems.
  • Define environment margins over mission lifetime and translate needs into requirements.
  • Translate orbit, duration, and availability into radiation requirements at unit level.
  • Perform shielding, dose-depth analyses and work with hardware teams on mitigations.
  • Evaluate EEE parts and optoelectronics for SEE, TID, and related effects.
  • Support design reviews and flight-readiness decisions; manage risk documentation.
