Summary

Performs computerized treatment planning for patients undergoing external beam, high-dose-rate, and low-dose-rate brachytherapy treatments in coordination with radiation oncologists.

Responsibilities
  • Fabricate treatment aids
  • Measure patient doses using thermoluminescent dosimetry methods and materials
  • Perform QA on dosimetry procedures according to standard procedures
  • Provide dosimetry instruction for radiation therapy students and residents
  • Provide technical and administrative support for brachytherapy procedures, including source receipt, preparation, and disposal
  • Use a computerized treatment planning system to prepare radiation treatment plans and modify plans as needed to accommodate unforeseen limitations and/or changes that may occur during the course of treatment; interface with appropriate medical staff on planning approach and data gathering
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific technical field (e.g., Radiation Therapy Technology, Physics, Math) or graduation from a school of Medical Dosimetry or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Licensure/Certification Requirements
  • Certified by Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) and credentialed as Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD), or Board eligible by MDCB (certification must be completed within one year of eligibility)
Professional Experience Requirements
  • Graduation from a Medical Dosimetry school: No prior experience required
  • Bachelor's degree: One (1) year of health‑care experience
  • Associate's degree: Must be a registered radiation therapist and have four (4) years of experience in medical dosimetry working under the supervision of a certified medical dosimetrist or medical physicist
