Job summary

Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) seeks a Radar Systems Analyst to build models of radar and RF systems and to assess performance in complex environments. You’ll contribute to DoW priorities and lead studies on radar capabilities, providing defensible technical recommendations to senior decision-makers.

The role requires strong coding in C++, Python, or MATLAB, and the ability to work independently within high-performing research teams.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a closely related quantitative field with at least 3 years of relevant experience beyond Ph.D. academic work, or
• Master's degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience beyond academic work.

Responsibilities

• Create technical models of radar systems and radar signal processing.
• Assess radar design trade-offs and system performance implications (detection, tracking, discrimination).
• Model real-world RF environments (clutter, propagation, congested environments).
• Design, simulate, and evaluate electronic attack techniques.
• Independently identify and propose research efforts addressing DoW gaps in radar/RF systems.
• Produce well-constructed briefings and reports for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborate on interdisciplinary teams and contribute initiative.
