Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory seeks an engineer to contribute across the lifecycle of advanced sensing capabilities, including radar and signal processing algorithm development, modeling and simulation, and transition of innovations into operational applications.

This role is designed for engineers with 1–2 years of relevant experience who are ready to deepen technical skills, take ownership of focused technical tasks, and grow into technical leadership responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • BS in electrical engineering or related technical field.
  • 1+ years of experience in signal processing, radar, sensors, or related analyses.
  • Experience in radar signal processing, detection/estimation, waveform analysis, or sensor phenomenology.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, C/C++, or Julia for modeling and analysis.
  • Demonstrated technical ownership or leadership through projects or internships.
  • Strong communication of technical results to diverse audiences.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Active Secret clearance with potential TS/SCI; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and mature signal processing, radar, sensing, and classification algorithms within complex architectures.
  • Own focused tasks and drive them from problem definition through results and recommendations.
  • Support concept development, requirements analysis, and architecture trades for advanced radar systems.
  • Evaluate radar and sensor performance including detection, estimation, and classification.
  • Perform verification, validation, and test data analysis for prototypes and operations.
  • Analyze sensor systems, phenomenology, and waveform considerations within system‑of‑systems contexts.
  • Design and execute modeling, simulation, analysis, and validation studies.
  • Collaborate with sponsors and teams to solve challenging problems across sensing disciplines.
  • Demonstrate technical leadership by coordinating approach and delivering data‑driven recommendations.
  • Develop algorithmic prototypes and solutions advancing sensing capabilities.
