Job summary

RTX is seeking a Radar Operations specialist to operate ROTHR radar systems and monitor air and surface contacts from our Chesapeake, VA site. You will model ionospheric layers, assign radar parameters, and ensure tracking accuracy for designated targets.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, 3+ years radar operations or related experience, and a DoD Secret clearance. U.S. citizenship is required for clearance eligibility and export control compliance.

• Experience with Windows 11.
• Active and transferable DoD Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance and to obtain any required Export Authorization.

Responsibilities

• Operate ROTHR radar systems, primarily PC-based platforms to monitor and track surface and air contacts.
• Model ionospheric layers and assess ionosphere propagation using PC-based resources.
• Select radar parameters based on ionospheric models to optimize detection and tracking of designated targets.
• Monitor and adjust radar resources to meet tasking requirements.
• Validate and report aircraft and surface contacts within radar coverage with tracking software.
• Interpret radar returns to identify take-offs and landings and monitor external communications over UHF links.

What You Will Do

• Perform the operation of ROTHR RADAR system, primarily PC-based platforms to monitor and track surface and air contacts.
• Perform ionosphere propagation assessment by manually modeling the ionosphere's layers using PC-based resources.
• Perform frequency selection by interpreting the ionospheric model and assigning the proper RADAR parameters for detection and tracking capability of the designated target type.
• Monitor and modify RADAR resources as necessary to meet tasking parameters.
• Monitor and assist ROTHR tracking software in validating and reporting aircraft and surface contacts within the RADAR coverage area.
• Interpret RADAR returns to identify take-offs and landings of aircraft.
• Monitor and copy external communications information relayed over UHF radio links.
• Interact with GCCS terminal for pertinent track data.
• Receive technical guidance and tasking from supervisor or higher-level operator.

• Four years radar operation and radar systems monitoring experience.
