The UI Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is seeking an Imaging Technologist or Senior Imaging Technologist to join our Pediatric Catheterization and Electrophysiology and pediatric imaging and procedure center, operate cine, fluoro and digital angiography imaging equipment, hemodynamic monitoring, and perform scrubs/circulating duties during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, perform teaching, quality assurance, preventative maintenance/repair and shares on-call responsibilities.

Duties to Include:

Imaging Technologist or Senior Imaging Technologist:

  • Operates digital angiography imaging equipment including multi-format cameras and high-resolution recorders independently.
  • Performs sterile stable set-up and post procedure clean up.
  • Performs circulating duties including patient care, basic and advanced cardiovascular life support, vital sign monitoring, patient procedure preparation.
  • Maintains imaging/procedure records; shares responsibilities of image storing, archiving, copying, destruction and/or disposal.
  • Maintains the operating condition of all radiologic equipment by means of quality control checks.
  • Provides instruction/orientation to trainees, students and other hospital personnel on equipment operation, safety precautions and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Participates in phantom, human and animal research as needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge of developments in radiologic technology and related subjects by attending meetings, continuing education programs, participation in professional organizations, and/or reading journals and publications.
  • Follows general policies and procedures in accordance with the regulations of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic and the Department of Pediatrics.

Operates various lab equipment:

  • Operates digital angiography imaging equipment including multi-format cameras and high-resolution recorders independently.
  • Operates various analysis equipment such as: cardiac output computers, oxygen consumption monitors, oximeters, blood gas, and ACT machines.
  • Operates pressure injection systems for the delivery of contrast material to the patient as ordered by the cardiologist.
  • Operates Radiofrequency and Cryotherapy ablation consoles.

The Division of Cardiology at the University of Iowa Department of Pediatrics provides compassionate, family-centered, and state-of-the-art delivery of care to children and young adults with congenital and acquired heart disease. Patients are followed through the transition to adulthood.

Imaging Technologist:

Required Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of two-year or other approved program by Joint Review Committee in Radiologic Technology Education is required.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification in diagnostic procedures by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologies is required.
  • Permit to practice in the State of Iowa for all radiographers operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment is required.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to complete certification in BLS/CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire.

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • One or more years of experience in cardiac catheterization or invasive angiography.
  • Demonstrated experience in pediatric interventional cardiac catheterization.

Senior Imaging Technologist:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or other Allied Health Sciences discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in cardiac catheterization or invasive angiography.
  • Must maintain current Certification in American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and/or other radiologic related technological certification and Iowa Permit to Practice as required by the State of Iowa for all technologists operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to complete certification in BLS/CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire.

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in pediatric interventional cardiac catheterization.
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical competence with experience working independently and consistently providing high quality imaging and treatment in a manner that assures patient safety and assists in diagnosis and treatment of the patient.
  • Experience designing and implementing new imaging protocols and procedures or improving existing ones.
