Job summary

A healthcare organization is seeking a Rad Tech Assistant to support the delivery of individualized healthcare services. This role involves assisting a registered radiologic technologist, preparing patients for visits, maintaining radiographic equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be enrolled in a Medical Imaging Program. Basic Life Support certification is required, but no previous work experience is necessary. The position has physical demands and involves exposure to clinical settings and communicable diseases.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Current enrollment in good standing in an accredited Medical Imaging Program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • No work experience required.
  • Knowledge of radiology procedures and equipment operation.
  • Ability to safely operate radiology equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for visit by completing documentation and answering questions.
  • Cleans and prepares the examination room for the next appointment.
  • Verifies physician orders and procedures for accuracy.
  • Maintains radiographic equipment and work area to departmental standards.
  • Performs radiology imaging adhering to LSBME standards.
  • Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure diagnostic quality standards are met.
  • Performs quality control procedures timely and notifies/remediates as necessary.
  • Adapts behavior to specific patient population including respect for privacy.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

This job supports the delivery of individualized healthcare services to patients by assisting a registered radiologic technologist with limited radiographic procedures, adhering to safety protocols and procedures. Collaborates with radiology team members to provide support to patients and physicians during their visit, communicates with patients to ensure timely and accurate care, and maintains accurate documentation of medical information in the company’s data systems.

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Current enrollment in good standing in an accredited Medical Imaging Program.

Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic radiology procedures and operation/maintenance of radiology equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate radiology equipment.
Job Duties

  • Performs radiology imaging adhering to LSBME standards and ALARA principle.
  • Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure diagnostic quality standards are met.
  • Performs quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards in a timely manner and perform notification/remediation as necessary.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical and Environmental Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Heavy work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area and may be exposed to communicable diseases and hazardous medications or waste.
