Position Overview
Performs imaging and therapeutic services, providing patient care in support of the Radiology Department's mission to deliver diagnostic information for patient treatment at WVU Medicine.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE
For West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland locations:
- Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
- Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If eligible, must pass boards within 6 months of hire.
- Radiologic Technologist certification through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners, or applicable state where services will be performed.
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- West Virginia state criminal background check required, and Federal background check if applicable.
For Pennsylvania locations:
- Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
- Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If eligible, must pass boards within one year of hire.
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- State criminal background check required, and Federal background check if applicable.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following statements describe the general nature of work for this role. They are not exhaustive; other duties may be assigned.
- Rotate through all diagnostic areas to develop technical skills (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
- Perform imaging procedures based on patient assessment, request, and protocols, with supervision and periodic evaluation.
- Produce high-quality images using imaging equipment, ensuring proper archiving.
- Select appropriate exposure factors considering patient size, condition, and pathology to optimize image quality and minimize radiation exposure.
- Minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff through shielding, collimation, and other safety measures.
- Maintain knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology to optimize procedures and ensure safety.
- Assess patient needs and provide support related to comfort, hygiene, and range of motion.
- Prepare contrast agents, pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays as per protocols.
- Educate patients about procedures and answer questions.
- Promote teamwork by interacting positively with staff across disciplines.
- Engage in problem solving, crisis management, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to ethical standards, policies, and regulations, including the ARRT Code of Ethics.
- Report equipment failures immediately.
- Complete required training and competencies timely.
- Position patients accurately per protocols.
- Coordinate daily workflow effectively.
- Supervise and instruct radiology students in clinical settings, ensuring proper technique and safety.
- Ensure all components of the imaging process are completed thoroughly.
Specialty Accreditation Requirements
Complete annual education related to specialty accreditation standards through various training methods.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Differentiate shades of gray on monitors or photographs.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Wear a lead apron weighing 8-15 pounds for long durations.
- Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Carry items up to 20 pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Exposure to minimal radiation, monitored by safety protocols.
- Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
- Operate imaging equipment with moving parts.

- Ability to adapt positioning and equipment manipulation as needed.
