Job summary

CFMOTO USA is seeking a Race Engineer to maximize vehicle performance through calibration, data analysis, testing, and race weekend support. You will serve as the primary technical liaison among the race team, driver, crew, and engineering teams, supporting trackside activities and development programs.

The role requires a strong background in motorsports engineering, data acquisition, and vehicle dynamics, with travel up to 40% and a passion for extracting peak performance under pressure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering field.
  • 5+ years in professional motorsports or high-performance automotive engineering.
  • Trackside engineering experience and race-weekend operations.
  • Proficiency with data acquisition and analysis tools.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle dynamics and calibration.

Job description

The Race Engineer is responsible for maximizing vehicle performance through assistance and support of calibration, data analysis, testing, component and parts supply, along with race weekend support. This role serves as the primary technical liaison between the race team, driver, crew, and engineering team. The Race Engineer will support trackside engineering activities, vehicle development programs, and help optimize race vehicle systems to achieve competitive performance, reliability, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
Race Team Support
  • Serve as the primary corporate engineering contact during race events, test sessions, and development activities.
  • Work directly with drivers, crew chiefs, mechanics, and technical staff to achieve optimal vehicle performance.
  • Support data acquisition systems, and driver feedback to identify performance opportunities.
  • Recommend and assist in implementation of setup changes related to suspension, tires, powertrain, and vehicle dynamics.
  • Support race strategy development and performance optimization.
  • Lead engineering reviews before, during, and after events.
  • Prepare technical reports and performance summaries following test and race activities.
Vehicle Calibration & Development
  • Support optimization of vehicle calibrations for engine, transmission, drivetrain, chassis, and vehicle control systems.
  • Support and perform data analysis and correlation between simulation, dyno, test track, and race performance.
  • Support development and validation of electronic control systems and calibration strategies.
  • In support of race teams, provide vehicle testing and experimental evaluations to improve performance, reliability, and drivability.
  • Collaborate with design, controls, software, and development teams to implement performance improvements.
  • Utilize data acquisition and analysis tools to evaluate vehicle behavior and system performance.
  • Support troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, software, and calibration-related issues.
Performance Analysis
  • In alignment with the race teams, analyze lap times, telemetry, tire data, engine performance, and vehicle dynamics metrics.
  • Develop performance models and identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Create dashboards, reports, and engineering documentation to support decision-making.
  • Ensure data quality and proper determinations
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Motorsports Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in professional motorsports, racing, vehicle development, or high-performance automotive engineering.
  • Strong background working in race environments, including trackside engineering support and race weekend operations.
  • Experience with vehicle calibration, controls, powertrain optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency with motorsports data acquisition and analysis tools
  • Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics, chassis, engine and transmission tuning, suspension systems, tire performance, and race car setup.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex vehicle systems under demanding time constraints.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% and support race schedules, test programs, and customer events.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with drivers, mechanics, technicians, and engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with professional racing series (Off-Road, powersports, Moto America, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of calibration tools such as INCA, CANape, MATLAB/Simulink, ETAS, Vector, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with simulation, vehicle modeling, and data-driven performance optimization.
  • Understanding of CAN communication networks and electronic vehicle systems.
  • Competition engineering experience supporting championship-level race programs.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of job-related factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, certifications, education, location and other business and organizational needs.
