SUMMARY

Wintergreen Winter Teams is dedicated to making skiing and snowboarding a lifelong passion for our athletes and their families. We focus on creating a safe, supportive environment where fun comes first, and competition is a tool for growth rather than the only goal. Guided by a team of experienced coaches, our athletes develop strong technical skills, learn to compete, and build the confidence to perform at their best- on the hill and beyond.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coach and mentor athletes in alignment with Wintergreen Winter Teams mission, emphasizing skill development, safety, and fun.
• Lead group training sessions for Introductory, Development, or Competition-level athletes in race or freestyle disciplines.
• Provide positive, constructive feedback to athletes and encourage personal growth on and off the slopes.
• Assist with race-day or event operations, including course setup, athlete management, and event wrap-up.
• Collaborate with other coaches and team leaders to ensure a consistent and supportive learning environment.
• Serve as a role model for sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for fellow athletes, staff, and guests.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong skiing or snowboarding skills; ability to demonstrate proper technique at the level you are coaching.
• Previous coaching, instructing, or mentoring experience preferred (but not required for introductory level).
• Enthusiasm for working with youth and a passion for fostering a love of winter sports.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to complete required training and maintain compliance with safety standards.
• Availability to work weekends and select holidays during the ski season.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous race, freeride, competition, or coaching experience.
• Current USSA (U.S. Ski & Snowboard) or PSIA/AASI (Professional Ski Instructors of America/American Association of Snowboard Instructors) certification.
• Prior coaching or instructor certification, or the ability and willingness to complete certification training as required.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT(S)

All Winter Competition Team coaches are required to hold - or be willing to obtain - at least an entry-level coaching certification.

Wintergreen supports professional development and encourages coaches to pursue ongoing education and certification to enhance their skills and ensure a safe, high-quality learning environment for athletes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

• Occasionally lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects of up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to walk outside in winter conditions
