Ginkgo Bioworks in Boston, MA is hiring an Automation Scientist Intern to help deploy and operate the Reconfigurable Automation Cells (RACs). The role is based on site and requires five‑days‑per‑week attendance.

You’ll learn to load, run, troubleshoot, and eventually modify protocols for our RAC platform, while gaining hands‑on experience in molecular biology workflows and lab automation. No college degree is required; coding or biology skills are welcome, and a strong automation mindset will

• No college degree necessary but some skills in coding, biology or computational biology required.
• "Automation-forward" mindset: you love working with lab automation and making robotic systems run smoother.
• Willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure that existing and new scientific workflows run successfully on our RAC automation system.

Responsibilities

• Master the RAC Platform: operate and maintain a system of Reconfigurable Automation Cells, queue and submit protocols, monitor for errors, and perform error recovery.
• Learn Biology: prepare reagents and consumables, execute workflows, onboard used plates, and safely dispose of waste from runs.
