Job summary

LifeGift Organ Donation Center in Fort Worth is seeking a Donation Clinical Specialist to coordinate organ and tissue donation activities, including donor evaluation, medical management, and recovery process.

The role requires frequent travel to hospital partners, 12-hour night shifts, weekends and holidays, and the ability to obtain hospital badge and EMR access across Life Gift partners.

Qualifications

• Two years of critical care experience preferred.
• RN/Paramedic/RT or equivalent in OPO considered.
• BLS required within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage all aspects of donor cases.
• Communicate with hospital staff and donor families.
• Ensure documentation and adherence to Life Gift policies.
• Coordinate recovery logistics with OR scheduling and team.
• Maintain confidentiality and EMR access.

LifeGiftiscurrentlylookingforaDonationClinicalSpecialistwhowillberesponsibleforthecoordinationoftheorganandtissuedonationprocessandactivitiesassociatedwiththerecoveryandutilizationoforgansfortransplantation.Thisincludesrespondingtoreferralsofpotentialorganandtissuedonors,evaluationfororganandtissuedonation,medicalmanagementoforgandonors,allocationoforgans,andassistanceintherecoveryandpreservationoforgansfortransplantation.

• Respondsto,evaluates,andscreenspotentialdonors,accordingtotheestablishedcriteriaofLifeGift.
• DocumentsandmaintainsmedicalinformationintotheLifeGiftmedicalrecordduringinitialandongoingevaluationofpotentialandactivedonors,withspecialattentiontoaccurate,timelyandthoroughdocumentation.
• AssessesthedynamicsofpotentialdonorfamiliesandworksincollaborationwithdonorhospitalstaffandFamilyCareSpecialists,tosetthestagefordonorfamilyconversationsregardingtheopportunityfororganandtissuedonation.
• AdherestoallcurrentpoliciesofLifeGift,OrganProcurementandTransplantNetwork(OPTN),andCentersforMedicare&MedicaidServices(CMS).
• MaintainsconfidentialityofpotentialdonorinformationinaccordancewithLifeGiftpolicies.
• Obtainsandmaintainsaccess,aswellasbecomesproficientintheuseofvariousmedicalrecordsanddatabases,asneededfordailyoperations.
• Coordinatesanddrivesforwardallaspectsoforgandonorcasesinanefficientandeffectivemanner,withafocusonmaximizingdonationopportunities.
• WorksincollaborationwithLifeGiftandhospitalresources,suchasthebedsidenurse,respiratorytherapist,andphysicians,toimplementeffectivedonormanagementandsupportoftheorgandonorfollowingLifeGift’sDonorManagementProtocolstooptimizeorganfunction.Consistentlydemonstratescriticalthinking,andbasicknowledgeofdonormanagement.
• Coordinatesallaspectsoforganrecovery,includingrecoveryteamcommunication,operatingroom(OR)scheduling,andreviewofproceduresforthesurgicalrecoveryincollaborationwithDonationRecoverySpecialistsandallotherinvolvedparties.
• CommunicatesandcollaborateswithLifeGiftstaff,hospitalstaff,medicalexaminer/justiceofthepeace(JP),tissuerecovery,andfuneralhomesregardingpost-organrecoveryprocesses,includingpost-mortemcare.
• Priortochartclosure,ensuresalldocumentationpostorganrecoveryisaccurate,andcompletedinatimelymanner.

DoyouhavetheeducationandexperiencetobeaDonationClinicalSpecialist?

• Nurse(LPN,LVN,RN),Paramedic,RespiratoryTherapist(RT),InternationalMedicalGraduate(IMG),orclinicallyequivalentexperienceinanOPO.
• Eitherofthefollowingpreferred:ADNand/orBSN
• Minimumoftwoyears’experienceinacriticalcaresettingpreferred.
• MustobtainBLSwithinsixmonthsofemployment.Mustmaintaincertificationthroughdurationofemployment.

Thisrolerequiresfrequenttravelandabilitytocommutetodifferenthospitalpartnerswithinourservicearea,aswellastheavailabilitytowork12-hourshifts,includingnights,weekendsandholidays.
