JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary
Research and Development (R&D) lab technicians work within the development and research efforts of their organization. They generally work in a laboratory setting and perform duties of qualifying and conducting testing/assembly to ensure that products are tested and assembled correctly according to industry standards. The R&D Lab Technician follows prescribed procedures, conducts product performance testing and characterization, and oversees data gathering, record keeping, and accuracy. Each R&D Technician shares ownership of every test/assembly outcome and promotes safe work practices in the lab. They support and assist researchers or research teams with product development projects.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Test and/or repair various new and older products using independent judgment to ensure quality, correct parts, and proper procedures.
- Build, repair, and test a variety of products using standard and non-standard tools, equipment, and procedures.
- Accurately record results and documentation for product certification to customer requirements.
- Read machine assembly specifications, such as charts and blueprints.
- Complete various records and documentation.
- Work on precision sub-assembly, assembly, or rework of parts involving detailed and independent judgment.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
- Comply with all NOV Company and HSE policies and procedures.
FACILITY/GROUP SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interpret and follow diagrams, blueprints, and procedures.
- Operate manual machines and hand tools.
- Possess knowledge of basic rigging and operate equipment such as forklifts, cranes, AWP, etc., along with specialized hand and power tools.
- Perform troubleshooting, testing, and assembly of mechanical systems for drilling control systems for surface and subsea applications.
- Assist in configuring, preparing, maintaining, and utilizing test stations and equipment for factory and system acceptance testing, including hydrostatic pressure and flushing.
- Set up, operate, test, repair, and modify mechanical equipment, systems, and devices.
- Apply basic skills while developing specialized skills in procedures, operations, techniques, tools, materials, and equipment relevant to the mechanical area; perform routine and repetitive tasks with limited decision-making under close supervision.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two or more years of experience in assembling and testing oilfield equipment (preferred).
- 0-6 months in related field (preferred).
- Knowledge of oil & gas field components (preferred).
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Physical ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Proper Personnel Protective Equipment must be worn in designated areas at all times.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Hydraulics (Awareness): Basic understanding of hydraulic principles, reading drawings, performing hydraulic interconnections, and testing components.
- Mechanics (Awareness): Basic understanding of mechanical principles, reading drawings, disassembling, inspecting, repairing, and testing mechanical parts.
- Safety (Awareness): Understands safety policies, can secure rigging devices, and has completed safety training.
- Testing (Awareness): Knowledge of hydraulic equipment quality control testing processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including MS Excel, MS Word, MS Visio, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Internet Explorer.
