National Gypsum Company, headquartered in Charlotte, NC, seeks a Senior Scientist to lead and conduct scientific research focused on joint compounds, plaster, and related wet-applied finishing systems. You will design experiments, analyze data, and provide strategic insights to maintain leadership in the building products market.

Ideal candidates have MS with 5+ years or PhD with 0-2 years industrial experience, and strong formulation skills in gypsum-based materials.

Qualifications

• MS in a relevant field with 5+ years of industrial experience, or PhD with 0-2 years industrial experience.
• Hands-on formulation experience in joint compounds or plaster, or adjacent materials.
• Strong control of paste/slurry rheology, waterborne polymers, mineral fillers, and additives.
• Excellent communication and teamwork, and willingness to travel up to 40%.

Responsibilities

• Generate, lead, and conduct research focused on joint compound and plaster formulations and performance.
• Plan and design scientifically rigorous experiments; collect, analyze data and report conclusions.
• Develop and scale new products, technologies, and test methods; supervise test programs for technical accuracy.
• Collaborate across functions to meet project objectives and regulatory requirements.
• Stay current with industry trends and communicate results to internal and external stakeholders.
