Job summary

Leggett & Platt Inc. is seeking a hands-on R&D Project Manager to drive multiple projects from concept to delivery in our Electronics Engineering team.

You’ll partner with hardware and software teams and stakeholders to define scope, timelines, and success criteria, ensuring alignment with our bedding business goals. You will manage practical project plans, monitor progress, and provide clear updates to leadership, while identifying risks and optimizing development processes across the product

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Project Management, or related technical field.
  • 3–5 years of experience supporting or leading engineering, R&D, or product development projects.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams across different engineering disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of engineering development processes and product lifecycle concepts.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to influence project outcomes through collaboration rather than formal authority.
  • Experience with cross-functional or matrixed teams is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile, Stage Gate, or iterative development approaches is a plus.
  • Exposure to both hardware and software development projects is a plus.
  • Interest in continued growth in technical project or program management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day execution of multiple R&D projects from concept through delivery.
  • Partner with engineering and business stakeholders to define project scope, requirements, timelines, and success criteria.
  • Develop and maintain practical project plans, schedules, and deliverables aligned with engineering workflows.
  • Coordinate cross functional teams, including hardware and software developers, to support effective product development.
  • Monitor project progress and provide clear, concise status updates to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Identify and communicate project risks, issues, and dependencies, proposing mitigation strategies as needed.
  • Support structured project reviews and milestone checkpoints throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of R&D project execution practices.

As a R&D Project Manager you will have the opportunity to be hands-on in our engineering and/or product development environments. So, what will you be doing as a R&D Project Manager?

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
